New Year, New You, And Nothing But Positivity

It’s the new year, which opens up doors and opportunities for a brand new you! It’s time to leave the failed exams, terrible first dates, and the crushing disappointments all in the past and start looking to a fresh start and a world of endless possibilities for the best year yet. It’s the year to be the person you’ve always wanted to be, to be nothing but happy, grow as a person, and strive to reach unmarked territory in your professional and personal career. It’s the time to do everything you’ve ever wanted to do. Whether that’s to quit your job and travel the world, start and commit to a new and healthy lifestyle, or finally take the leap of faith and go skydiving. There is this overwhelming feeling of optimism as everyone heads into the new year and we can’t help but all want to jump on board with everyone else. It’s a new year and a new you!

If 2015 taught me anything, it’s that life is short and it should be cherished every single day. For 2016, I challenge everyone to live a life full of positivity and optimism. In this new year, make it a habit to tell your loved ones just how much you love them every day, take risks, laugh too much, get off your butt and go out with your friends. But most importantly, do your best to live a happy and healthy lifestyle. This is the beginning of 2016 and it’s time to make it not only the best year but specifically your year! For many of us, we look for this New Year as a time to achieve new health goals or obtain that kick-ass body we’ve always wanted. Whether you’re looking to enter this new year with a new and healthy lifestyle or perfecting your financial situation, it’s important to remain emotionally healthy throughout the process. Here are a few ways in which to remain emotionally healthy and positive throughout the new year.

1. Approach every situation in a positive and optimistic way.

By viewing life and certain situations in a positive way, it allows you to become happy, joyful, and thankful. It not only has the power to change your personal life but it also has the tendency to affect the people around you, molding them into positive people as well. If your day isn’t going well, be thankful that it isn’t any worse. If you get caught in a monsoon as you’re riding your bike home from class, laugh and enjoy the rain. One day you won’t be able to feel it. Having a positive outlook on life is life changing.

2. Work hard on keeping relationships that matter to you.

I will be the first to tell you that family and friends are everything to me. Without them, I couldn’t get through my good days or my bad ones. Relationships are your backbones no matter what people have to say. Work on them and keep your friendships and relationships with people strong. They will make you happy.

3. Try your best to not sweat the small stuff.

It’s so much easier said than done but not making a big deal out of things that can easily be solved will actually provide a lot of less stress in your life. If the cashier at the drive-thru messed up your order, don’t sweat it. Be thankful that you even have money to spend at the drive thru. If you failed an exam, work harder to get a better grade on the next one. It’s not the end of the world. I promise.

4. It’s important to have you time.

Being emotionally stable and healthy requires a bit of soul searching and being content in the body and place that you’re in. In order to do that, sometimes you need time to yourself. Whether that’s reading a book with a hot cup of tea, spending the day shopping, or even enjoying a good workout with the music blasting. Whatever you may find enjoyment in, sometimes it’s necessary to enjoy it by yourself.

6. Always know that your mistakes and tribulations don’t define you.

You are where you’re supposed to be right now at this exact moment. So what, you didn’t get your dream job or get accepted into the grad school of your dreams. I read a quote last week that went along the lines of, God puts things in your life to hurt you, to help you, to throw you off course, and to disappoint you in order for you to become the person you’re meant to be. Always keep reaching for the next best thing and do it with nothing but grace and happiness.

Wherever this New York finds you, I hope you exude nothing but positivity and joy. I hope that you love a lot, make mistakes, find happiness, do something you’ve always wanted to do, and enjoy everything that life has to offer. Goodbye, 2015, and hello to the beautiful, enticing, and exciting 2016!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
