Cheers to the New Year.

New Year, New Realizations

2016. A year of realizing things. HA. But really, though. 2016 taught me a lot about myself and how I wanted to live my life. I finally understood that you are the only thing that is in charge of your own happiness. No one else, nothing else, just you. While other people and things do give us happiness, they are not the most important. This took me a long time to figure out. I relied on other people to make myself happy, but as people come and go, you are stuck with yourself. Sometimes people going out of our lives gives us the opportunity to take a step back and instead of being sad, be glad. Glad that everyone in your life is there for a reason and their being teaches you something about yourself. It may be big; it may be small. I have been lucky enough to be surrounded by amazing people in my life. While 2016 was full of friendships starting and friendships ending, they have all been incredible.

Going into 2017, my one goal is continuing with this attitude; you are in charge of your own happiness. While this year has been tough for me, the new year will be better. It will be better due to my new attitude towards myself and life. With this realization, I found things that I really enjoy and try and take all the toxic things out of my life. I started getting into poetry, I haven’t written any yet, but just reading it makes me genuinely happy. The way only a few words can have such a huge message is incredible. Life is not all about the big things, but all the little things too, that make up life. Just like poetry, the little things can have a huge impact on your life. Like doing something more for yourself, loving yourself, realizing that you are amazing. So this year, I hope everyone can realize these things. And I hope I can keep believing the thoughts I had in 2016. Cheers to the new year.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
