Getting "Happy New Year!!" texts from so called "friends" or "exes" or unknown numbers that you erased a long time ago? And wondering why or if you should text back? Well, now's the time to permanently erase those numbers or tell the people who've been treating you like muck, how you really feel. The phrase "New Year, New Me" might sound cliche, but it doesn't have to be. A new year can help guide you to new ways of letting go and pushing forward. Remember, your ex is an ex for a reason, and friends come and go but you know who's really there for you even if you don't ask. All negativity does is bring you down and the less of it the better! Remind yourself that the past should stay in the past and that this year you should worry about the main person in your life: YOU!
Start by setting goals for yourself and focusing your energy toward being a better you, so when the negativity tries to hit you like a wrecking ball (pun intended) you can handle the storm by uplifting yourself with the plans and goals you've already set up for yourself. Take your time and start with baby steps; rushing to get results will leave you stumped and unmotivated. A planner will help layout what you have to do and what you intend on doing for each day. If it helps, buy a fancy one with stickers and cool designs. It's okay to go all Lisa Frank, as long as you use it is all that matters! I use planners myself and they seem to help me stay more organized and feel less all over the place. Once you get one, start outlining your life and setting up challenges you may want to pick up. You're more likely to remember and follow through with something if you write it down. And to give yourself an extra reminder add it to your phone as well.
Ever heard of a vision board? If you have or made one in the past, try making another to cater more to your short term goals or revise the one you've already made with new pictures of goals that you haven't rationalized before. If you haven't made one, make one now! It doesn't have to be complex or difficult. The point of a vision board is to lay out and clarify a specific life goal. Just displaying images of who you want to be, what you want to have in your life, or things you want to do can open your mind to different possibilities. And you can focus more on finishing what you start.
This year I'm personally setting nine new goals for myself that you can try as well or tailor to your liking.
1. A bad habit I'm going to break
2. A good deed I'm going to do
3. A place I'd like to visit
4. A book I'd like to read
5. A letter I'm going to write AND send
6. A new skill I'd like to learn
7. A new food I'd like to try
8. One thing I'm going to do better at
9. Finding someone who inspires my passion
Setting goals is the key to success, and to have a successful year one must have goals.
Happy goal-making and may this year be enlightening and challenging all the more!
