Since the release of their sixth studio album, Future Hearts, in April of 2015, All Time Low has done many things such as hosting the 2015 and 2016 Alternative Press music awards, toured many cities and countries around the world and appeared in magazines like Rock Sound and Alternative Press. As far as new music, they were pretty quiet from 2015 up until January of 2017, when they announced that they would be releasing their seventh studio album, Last Young Renegade, later this year in June on the record label Fueled By Ramen, home to the wildly popular Twenty-One Pilots and Panic! At the Disco.
If you’re a part of the band’s mailing list, then you may remember receiving this email and being very excited and unable to contain your emotions, like me:
Here we are! Ten years since our first official full-length debut (So Wrong, It's Right), nearly 14 years since we formed this band, and we're lucky enough to be sharing another chapter in the tale of All Time Low with the world. We couldn't be more grateful than we are right now.
I hope you can forgive us, because we've been keeping secrets.
Since the beginning of last year, we have officially been signed to Fueled By Ramen, the very first label we ever showcased for during our senior year of high school. It didn't work out back then, and that's ok (we probably blew it), but FBR has always felt like a second musical family to us through everything. From Hopeless Records, to Interscope, and back to Hopeless, we've come up listening to the bands on the FBR roster, working together on outside projects, watching with pride and admiration, looking forward to the moment when timing and purpose would align, affording us the chance to come in under their wing. So, here we are; a year spent in secret on a new label, writing songs and brainstorming for what comes next. I'm happy to say that we can finally deliver.
Dirty Laundryis a proud moment for me personally, a song written in the company of friends, torn apart and stitched back together several times over like all the best relationships... It's about leaving the past where it belongs, and loving the people around you for not only their light, but their darkness too.
We shot the video with that in mind; inspired by a dream about the ups and downs that make us who we are, sometimes worn and tired, but better for it... alive and inspired. You can check out the song and watch the video atalltimelow.com. Our good friend Pat Tracy, who directed "Missing You" video helped us bring it to life, and we couldn't be happier about where the story will go from here. Pay close attention. :)
I hope you all love the song as much as I do. We're ecstatic about everything we have lined up this year, and can't wait to add this one to the set list as we get back out on the road. See you soon!
xo,
Alex Gaskarth
ps. Sending all our love and gratitude to the Hopeless Records family, without whom we wouldn't be in this position now. Thank you for supporting us and breaking down wall after wall with us as we navigated this wild ride together. You guys have been incredible to work with over the years. Good people go far, which is why you all continue to crush it day in and day out. Thank you.
After reading this email from the band, I was filled with excitement that finally after two years of waiting, I would be blessed with new music from my heroes; but I was nervous when I saw that they were on a new label. If you’ve been following the band for as long as I have, then you probably remember when they signed to Interscope Records and released their fourth studio album, Dirty Work, in June of 2011. The album, to me, did not feel like the usual, upbeat and fun All Time Low that I was used to; and I was not the only one who thought that. It received many mixed reviews from all over the world, but the good news is, is that it didn’t completely fail. Anyone who knows me knows that I love this band more than anything, but Dirty Work was unfortunately not their best work and I was disappointed.
But, since I love this band more than life itself, I decided that I would give the song Dirty Laundry a try. Upon first listen, I immediately noticed that it had a darker feel to it than any of their other stuff. But, granted that any band’s sound can change over time, it wasn’t half bad. I’ll be honest, it took me a few times of listening to it all the way through before the song finally grew on me. Sure, it was dark and definitely different from their past music, but Alex stated in the letter, it’s another chapter for the band and it’s a chance to start new.
I can now officially say that I love the new song; it’s grown on me and I listen to it at least 5 times a day. This past week, they announced a new summer US tour in support of their new album, and of course my best friend and I are going.
Give the new song a listen and see for yourself what you think of it! Be sure to head on over to Ticketmaster and grab tickets to see All Time Low this summer, you won’t want to miss it! Tickets go on sale Friday, March 3rd at 10 am local time. See you there!
