This past weekend, I found myself wandering around Norwood, Massachusetts, of all places. My boyfriend goes to school there and I was visiting him, but he was still in class when I arrived so I needed to kill some time. As always, when I think of how to kill time, I think food, usually a coffee shop of some sort. I hadn’t eaten breakfast so I was fairly hungry. I googled coffee shops in Norwood and a few places popped up. Suprisingly, it seems as though Norwood has a fairly eclectic food scene. As I scrolled along, I became very impressed with the coffee/breakfast places in the area and then I found the perfect spot. That’s actually its name... SPoT! (to be exact)
I used my trusty cellular device to navigate the way there, but in reality I could have gotten there very easily without it. The building is right along the main road, and, in addition to several blinking neon signs advertising bagels and coffee, there were black awnings with the bold white letters reading “SPoT!” across them. Immediately I was intrigued. When I got there, they were just opening up and people were already waiting outside. I stepped inside and instantly fell in love. It has vintage general store signs, classic rock music playing, and the INTOXICATING smell of freshly baked bagels. But they don’t just have breakfast. They also have the biggest variety of old school soda and candy I have ever seen in my life. Some of which I have never even heard of!
But let's get back to the big picture... the bagels. They roll them out on racks that come straight from the oven. And you know this because you can feel the heat radiating off of them when the rack passes you. Luckily, since I was one of the first ones there, I got a bagel that had just come out of the oven. I have always said that my perfect idea of heaven is plenty of dogs (no humans) and endless cups of coffee. Now I am including these bagels on the list. Every bite was perfect. It was golden brown on the outside which gave it a slight crust, but it was soft and tender on the inside. Oh, and, of course, warm because it had left the oven basically 30 seconds ago. It warmed the cream cheese just slightly, which is my favorite way to eat a bagel with cream cheese. Don’t even get me started on the cream cheese. The flavors range from honey walnut to bacon scallion. And we all know that bacon makes everything better.
It was also perfect because I was able to get a specialty iced coffee (toffee nut mocha - DELISH) and a bagel with cream cheese for under $4.00, which is basically a college kid's dream. If I had gotten just a regular iced coffee, it would have been less because iced coffee is only $1.00 for ANY FREAKING SIZE. And if you want to add a flavor shot, it’s only a few cents more! I swear, this place was created just for me.
When you read the reviews on this place online, most are positive. However, there are a few that complain hard core about how long the line/wait usually is. Yes, the wait can be up to 15-20 minutes, but if you are looking for fast, hit Dunks down the road. Quality takes time, and personally, I am very much willing to wait for it. If you aren’t, then don’t go to SPoT!, but you will definitely be missing out.
After I sat down and ate my breakfast, I got back in line. I had seen a container of their homemade dark chocolate peanut butter and I couldn’t leave without buying one. When the woman at the register (one of the owners) saw I had grabbed a tub she smiled and said to me, “Oh, I love this stuff. It delicious!” She was right. Then, as she was cashing me out, she proceeded to say, “Have a great day. See you next time!”
Yes, you will SPoTt!. Yes, you will.
