At the start of each semester, we all have such high hopes for ourselves. You tell yourself that this semester is going to be WAY different than last. You’ll be organized! You’ll be focused! You’ll be involved! This is YOUR semester!
However, it never actually works out like that. If we’re being honest, the semester goes a lot more like this:
Getting ready for class
Expectation: "I'll wake up early for class so I can actually look presentable and I'll leave 15 minutes early so I can get a good seat!"
Reality: Most days you roll out of bed 5 minutes before class starts. You are only seen wearing your clothes from the day before because the people in your Monday/Wednesday/Friday classes don't see you on Tuesday's/Thursday's.
Going to class
Expectation: "I won't skip any classes this semester! I'll take detailed notes and that way studying will be a breeze!"
Reality: Halfway through the semester the professor will ask you if you're in the wrong class because you skip so much. When you actually start showing up you will spend the entire class trying to think of an Instagram caption for the picture from the night before.
Studying
Expectation: "I'll go to the library everyday and I'll start studying for tests earlier so I don't have to cram the night before!"
Reality: You will not step foot in the library and finals week will be the first time you open your book all semester.
Being healthy
Expectation: "I'm going to go to the gym everyday and eat a salad for every meal!"
Reality: You go to the gym everyday for about a week and then realize you hate exercising. You will probably nap instead (which is definitely a better use of your time) and you go on an embarrassing amount of late night Taco Bell runs.
Spending Money
Expectation: "I'm only going to buy something if I REALLY need it. I'll use my meal plan everyday and I'll only go out to eat on Saturday nights!"
Reality: A majority of your time is spent online shopping and convincing yourself it's okay to spend $25 on that shirt because it's just "so cute." You will avoid the cafeteria at all costs and make any excuse to take a trip to Chipotle.
