Are you out of the loop when it comes to new movies? I usually am. A lot of people's primary source for learning about upcoming movies is from commercials on TV. With Netflix and Hulu becoming very popular, you may be missing out on seeing trailers for new movies on a regular basis. I know I am. So, I'd like to let you in the loop by telling you about four new movies coming out in September that you may want to keep an eye out for. Each movie listed will have a brief synopsis, the link to the trailer, and my personal thoughts after watching the trailers myself. I did not write the synopses, they are found on movieinsider.com.
The Magnificent Seven
Release date: September 2, 2016
Rating: PG-13
Trailer: http://www.movieinsider.com/m10581/the-magnificent...
Synopsis: With the town of Rose Creek under the deadly control of industrialist Bartholomew Bogue (Peter Sarsgaard), the desperate townspeople employ protection from seven outlaws, bounty hunters, gamblers and hired guns – Sam Chisolm (Denzel Washington), Josh Farraday (Chris Pratt), Goodnight Robicheaux (Ethan Hawke), Jack Horne (Vincent D’Onofrio), Billy Rocks (Byung-Hun Lee), Vasquez (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), and Red Harvest (Martin Sensmeier). As they prepare the town for the violent showdown that they know is coming, these seven mercenaries find themselves fighting for more than money.
My thoughts: This movie is a remake of The Magnificent Seven from1960, which was a remake of a Japanese film, Seven Samurai (1954). I have not seen either of the previous films. This 2016 remake is a modern take on an old western film. We see Denzel Washington recruiting men for a mission to take out a bad guy, but they are actually working for a woman seeking revenge on the man who killed her husband. It looks like we are in for exciting fight scenes, a not-so damsel in distress and possibly a love interest?
When the Bough Breaks
Release date: September 9, 2016
Rating: PG-13
Trailer: http://www.movieinsider.com/m5873/within/videos/12...
Synopsis: John and Laura Taylor (Morris Chestnut and Regina Hall) are a young, professional couple who desperately want a baby. After exhausting all other options, they finally hire Anna (Jaz Sinclair), the perfect woman to be their surrogate—but as she gets further along in her pregnancy, so too does her psychotic and dangerous fixation on the husband. The couple becomes caught up in Anna’s deadly game and must fight to regain control of their future before it’s too late.
My thoughts: This trailer left me wanting more! This movie looks like it is going to be something different than what we have seen in a long time. A scandalous mystery, drama, thriller with a seemingly interesting plot line. I have so many questions! Why is the surrogate mother living in the house with them? Is there something going on between the surrogate mother and the husband of the couple trying to have the baby, or is the surrogate mother really just psychotic? Did they not get her mental stability checked out before they chose her as a surrogate mother? Will she try to keep the baby? I need answers!
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children
Release date: September 30, 2016
Rating: PG-13
Trailer: http://www.movieinsider.com/m9102/miss-peregrines-...
Synopsis: When Jake discovers clues to a mystery that spans alternate realities and times, he uncovers a secret refuge known as Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As he learns about the residents and their unusual abilities, Jake realizes that safety is an illusion, and danger lurks in the form of powerful, hidden enemies. Jake must figure out who is real, who can be trusted, and who he really is.
My thoughts: I have not read the book that this movie is based off of, but I do plan to read it before the movie comes out. This movie intrigues me because it is peculiar! Miss Peregrine gives off an eerie and mysterious vibe, in my opinion, which makes me think she is up to something she's not letting the other peculiar children know. They are fighting 'The Hollows', which have apparently been hunting them for centuries. Does Miss Peregrine have her own agenda? Is she keeping the children hostage in her time loop? Why is Jack so special? What will his peculiarity be? Will he be able to defeat 'The Hollows'?
Morgan
Release date: September 2, 2016
Rating: R
Trailer: http://www.movieinsider.com/m13227/morgan/videos/1...
Synopsis: A corporate troubleshooter (Kate Mara) is sent to a remote, top-secret location, where she is to investigate and evaluate a terrifying accident. She learns the event was triggered by a seemingly innocent “human,” who presents a mystery of both infinite promise and incalculable danger
My thoughts: Just from watching the trailer, Morgan reminds me a little bit of a character from the new Netflix series, "Stranger Things", Eleven (El). Both scientific experiments of the government who have exceeded the expectation and can no longer be controlled by their 'creators'. This movie seems like it will be completely filled with suspense, leaving the viewer with a million questions throughout the film. Who or what exactly is Morgan? What is her plan? Can she be controlled? Does she need to be controlled? I guess we will all just have to find out once the film is released.
Hopefully you have received a little insight on what is going on at the movie theater next month, and I am very excited to see some of these films.
