12 Things You Should Stop Saying to Twins

I am a twin and I have to say that it's pretty cool. It's always nice to have someone by your side during big transitions in life like going away to college. I really wouldn't have it any other way. When you're a twin, you are often subject to many questions and comments, and by that I mean many of the same questions and comments. Over, and over again. So, I've compiled a list of things you should stop saying to twins.

1. "Which one is the pretty one and which one is the smart one?"

"The Parent Trap"Giphy

Do I really need to explain why this is not an appropriate question to ask?

2. "Who's the mean one?"

"The Shining" twinsGiphy

We're actually both pretty nice.

3. "If I hit your sister will you feel it?"

Olsen twinsGiphy

Yeah, go ahead. I dare you!

4. "There's two of you?!"

"The Parent Trap"Giphy

Nope, there's just one of me.

5. "Are you twins?"

I don't know, you tell me.

6. "You all remind me of [insert famous set of twins here]."

Tia and TameraGiphy

This is something I've heard one too many times. Me and my sister were always told that we looked like and reminded people of Tia and Tamera. Sometimes it got to the point where people would actually call us by their names which was honestly a little weird.

7. "Can you read each other's minds?"

This one is usually annoying, but when we were in LA back in 2009 a family friend's husband would randomly ask us questions to see if we could really read each other's minds and it was hilarious. He is the only person I am ok with asking questions of this nature.

8. "What is it like being a twin?"

ShrugGiphy

I really couldn't tell you because I don't know what it's like to not be a twin.

9. "Are you single? Well, is your sister?"

Eye rollGiphy

Yes, I have actually been asked this question on multiple occasions and my reply is almost never a nice one.

10. "Do you ever switch places?"

"The Simpsons"Giphy

I guess this is a legit question, but I am asked this way too often. No, me and my sister have never switched places. Please don't go on a mini-rant about how we're boring because of this and what you would do if you were a twin.

11. "Do you have the same personalities?"

"Sister Sister"Giphy

This question doesn't take long to find the answer to. We're basically total opposites and sometimes I think the only similar thing about us is our looks.

12. "Do you all do everything together?"

"American Horror Story: Freak Show"Giphy

No! We can absolutely do things without one another. A few years ago I even left the country without my sister. Can you believe it?!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
