It seems that every time Netflix streams a new show, people can't help but fall trap to them time and time again. To be completely honest, it is not shocking. The level of productions and content Netflix manages to dish out every time is staggering. Viewers are drawn to these uncensored shows where it seems that anything is possible, and they don't disappoint with "Stranger Things".
That is the name of Netflix's new hit sic-fi/drama. If you've seen this name plastered all over your Facebook timeline, it is possible that another one of your friends of family have binged watched the eight episodes of the first season of this show. All I can say is, they brought back the 80's even for those who've never lived it.
The show stars Winona Ryder and David Harbour in company with most incredible and talented group of kid actors I've had the pleasure of watching for eight straight episodes. The best way I could probably describe this show is if "The X Files" and a Stephen King novel had a crossover, this would be the product.
Honestly, whenever creative story writing is present in any televisions how people will be sucked right now. That is the key to these short episode series. Being able to write a great narrative from start to finish and leaving people wanting more is what makes these streamed shows so successful.
I am also glad to see Winona Ryder back and delving in a genre we've never seen her in, but especially thrilled to see her in the role of a stricken mother in search of her son. The emotional range we were treated to was incredible.
The show is definitely something of a peculiar thing but not limited to its audience. It has a nice balance between sic-fi and drama that makes it enjoyable and relatable to a lot of people who may not necessarily be strictly sic-fi fans. This may have a lot to do with the children who are the main stars of the series, especially Millie Bobby Brown whose portrayal of the character known as "Eleven" will leave your heart broken.
Aside from the plot line and solid lead of actors, other components that make this show so incredible and fresh is the cinematography and music. It uses elements of the 80's without being too on the nose. Once you listen to the score, you'll know exactly as to what I am talking about. Also, when it comes to 80's aesthetics, this show excels in taking you back in time without making it look like another cliche.
Overall, this show will leave you with more questions than answers but not enough that it leaves the audience disappointed. It is a well written series, with interesting characters that makes you care about them and with an overall aesthetic that represents what mades shows like "The X Files" so powerful and successful.
Netflix has yet to confirm a second season but I think it is safe to assume there will be.
