So you’ve got a job for the summer, you’ve survived (or are still trying to survive) the family vacation, you’ve caught up with your hometown friends, you’re still going through college BFF withdrawal, and now what? Sit out in the blazing sun, sweating in an attempt to tan, ignoring everything that your mom and pale best friend (me) say about the health risks? I have a better idea: binge watch a new show.

Okay, you’re caught up in Orange is the New Black, and finished crying over the Grey’s Anatomy finale a while ago, what else is there? Let me be the first to tell you, there’s so much on Netflix.

  • If you liked Parks and Recreation, try Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

Leslie Knope’s “yes we can” attitude toward everything translates right into Kimmy Schmit’s “unbreakable” mantra. From Amy Poehler’s comedy BFF, Tina Fey, this Netflix show was renewed for a second season before the first was even released. It’s amazing, hilarious, and uber-feminist. Be ready to feel powerful and inspired by Kimmy Schmidt as she tries to navigate NYC after escaping a doomsday cult that kept her underground for 15 years. It’s chock-full of hilarious quotes and celebrities, and absolutely worth a binge-watch.

A sarcastic, rude, and extremely blunt doctor who is also a genius? Call Dr. House. This show is for everyone who loved the medical parts of Grey’s. There are some great (and some not-so-great) relationships, but it won’t destroy your emotions in the same way. Dr. House was originally imagined to be a medical version of Sherlock Holmes, which makes every episode a fantastic mystery. There are eight seasons of sarcasm and medical genius that will keep you busy for (at least) a few weeks. Plus, it might help you learn a thing or two, if you’re pre-med.

  • If you liked American Horror Story, try Bates Motel.

Along the lines of the terrifying, twisted, and just plain weird storylines of AHS, you can find a love in Bates Motel. Well, love might not be the right word, but you’ll definitely get sucked into this prequel series to Alfred Hitchcock’s classic horror flick, Psycho. You know, the one with the famous shower scene halfway through that changed the entire course of the horror genre forever? That one. Get into the mind of Norman Bates when he was a teenager and find out what makes a killer tick in this insanely entertaining show.

While it’s likely you’ve already watched both of these shows, they’re worth watching again. And if you haven’t watched either of them before…stop what you’re doing and go watch them right now. Friends tells the tale of six thirty-something best friends navigating life in New York City from the couch of their favorite coffee shop. It’s absolutely hilarious and completely iconic in it’s ten year run (1994-2004, so naturally the outfits are great). Along similar lines, Gilmore Girls is the story of best friends – a mother and daughter. Fast-talking, coffee-drinking duo Lorelai and Rory Gilmore are mother/daughter relationship goals. Watch the two of them handle life together. For Rory, it’s high school, boys, books, college, and more. For Lorelai it’s coffee, running her inn, dealing with her overbearing and wealthy parents, and being Rory’s best friend/mom. Together, these two can do anything…right?

So get out of the heat, and curl up with a fan and a popsicle or two, and settle in for a new show this summer!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
