Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events Official Trailer

Netflix is constantly adding new series and movies, but there's some especially interesting stuff set for release in January of 2017. Don't even think about trying to go to the gym more often as your New Year's resolution, because this list is going to have you couch-bound for quite some time:

1) The Parent Trap

We're not talking about the Lindsay Lohan remake here; this is the real deal. The original Parent Trap debuted in 1961, with actress Hayley Mills playing the twins. The movie will hit Netflix on January 1.

2) One Day at a Time

This reboot of Norman Lear's classic sitcom is set for release on January 6. One Day at a Time follows the story of Penelope (played by Justina Machado), a former military mom raising two children with the "help" of her Cuban-born mother. Todd Grinnell plays the only character from the original series, a building manager and friend of Penelope named Schneider.

3) A Series of Unfortunate Events

Yes, you read it right. The book series by Lemony Snicket is getting some TV spotlight, and this time we're hoping the story is much less of a disappointment than the 2004 movie with Jim Carey. Instead of trying to cram all 13 books into one film, the Netflix original series is releasing an eight-episode first season on January 13. Neil Patrick Harris stars as Count Olaf, the villain who continuously terrorizes the three Baudelaire orphans. Fans of the Snicket series will be excited to hear that Harris claims the show is "super faithful to the books."

4) Caddyshack

Who doesn't love this 1980 classic with Chevy Chase? Caddyshack hits Netflix January 1.

5) E.T. The Extra Terrestrial & His Adventures On Earth

Thirty-five years later, E.T. still endures. Eliot, played by Jackson Thomas, befriends an alien who has been stranded on Earth (E.T. phone home). The movie will be available to stream January 1.

6) It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia: Season 11

This series follows various shenanigans of "The Gang," four friends who own an Irish pub in South Philadelphia. Fans will also be excited for the brand new 12th season of It's Always Sunny , which is is set to premiere on FX and FXX this January.

7) Bee Movie

This 2007 animated film features Jerry Seinfeld as the voice of Barry B. Benson, a disillusioned bee who breaks away from his hive and meets a human lady friend. Bee Movie is a good watch for the whole family, but perhaps more important are these videos that have gone viral in the past few weeks:

Bee Movie is another January 1 release.

8) A whole bunch of horror films

Although Netflix is known to produce some pretty awful horror movies, some of these may be worth a try. Hostage to the Devil is a documentary based on a book with the same title, and tells the stories of some supposedly true contemporary exorcisms. Also, The Similars got some pretty good reviews, but the only drawback is that the whole film is in Spanish (maybe try the subtitles?).

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Whether you're commuting or dorming, your first year of college is a huge adjustment. The transition from living with parents to being on my own was an experience I couldn't have even imagined- both a good and a bad thing. Here's a personal archive of a few of the things I learned after going away for the first time.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
