Netflix: an epidemic sweeping across college campuses and providing the perfect way to procrastinate. Whether you're a paying customer or borrowing from friends and family, you've probably binge watched at least a few episodes or movies in your free time. This week, I thought I'd share a few of my top picks from everyone's favorite media streaming service.
1. Friends
I don't think I even need to explain this one. It's a classic, and there are episodes to fit every mood. It doesn't matter whether you're watching it for the first time or the fifth, you'll still laugh and cry along with the characters.
2. The Office
The lovable crew from the Scranton business office of Dunder Mifflin paper company will keep you coming back for more. I'm pretty sure I binge watched all nine seasons in a month and a half. Who doesn't love funny jokes and a good office romance?
3. Parks and Recreation
This comedy, centered around the small government Parks Department of Pawnee, IN, offers a solid plot line, knee-slapping comedy, and relatable characters. While some may call this a copy of "The Office," it stands on its own as an office centered sitcom.
4. Gossip Girl
If you're looking for young romance and teenage drama, this is the place to go. Follow the rich, socially elite private school kids from Manhattan, NY and see if you can keep up with their crazy lives; I dare you.
5. Stranger Things
Okay, let's be honest: if you haven't at least heard about the Netflix sci-fi thriller that absolutely rocked its debut, you may be living under a rock (sorry to break it to you!). You won't regret diving into the first season of this thrilling action series.
P.S. There are A LOT of flashing and flickering lights in this show; just a warning for anyone with epilepsy or other conditions triggered by that.
6. Grey's Anatomy
Drama, drama, drama: if I could only use one word to describe the show that's about to release its 13th season, that would be it. Keeping up with the ever-changing plot line can be difficult, but the eye-catching characters make it a little easier. Don't get too attached, though....
7. How I Met Your Mother
Between the crazy strong friendships, head over heels romances, and bro code tips, this show is a must watch. Watch out for that final episode, though; it may just shock you. :)
8. Begin Again
Let's take a break from television series for a moment to appreciate this gem of a film: a down on his luck music producer stumbles across an aspiring artist in the midst of her own personal struggles. This is a great one for those nights you just want to settle in, watch a movie, and relax.
9. Breaking Bad
This critically acclaimed drama / action is one of my personal favorites (like, my top five). A high school chemistry teacher with a growing family is diagnosed with cancer and has to find a way to pay for his treatment and provide for them when he passes; who cares whether or not it's legal?
10. Better Call Saul
Another one of my personal favorites, this new-to-Netflix series follows the life of Jimmy McGIll and how he ends up as Saul Goodman, a significant character later on in "Breaking Bad."
11. Glee
This musical drama centers around the lives of McKinley High School students and their glee club. It's been around for a few years now, but none-the-less it keeps you entertained episode after episode. I never finished it due to the controversial nature of the later seasons, but the earlier ones provided great acting and even better music.
