Live streaming TV shows has changed my life as I know it. I can no longer be in silence while I am getting ready for class or work, I have to have my shows on as background noise. It has become my sense of comfort and relaxation. Needless to say, I watch a lot and have become a bit of an expert. With that, I do a lot of switching between Netflix and Hulu because once you finish a show on Netflix, the live shows go on Hulu. For instance, my mom and I love watching "American Idol" together, but we don’t have cable at my house. Who needs it when there it Hulu? "American Idol" is on TV on Wednesdays and then comes live on Hulu Thursdays, TA DA! So, between the two, here are some of my favorites:
1. "Grey’s Anatomy" -- Netflix up to Season 11, current seasons on Hulu.
People have been telling me to watch "Grey’s" since it aired in 2007, and I didn’t understand until this past winter break when I started watching. It’s March now, and I am now on Season 11 and I am so upset to be finishing it. "Grey’s" is amazing and I know most people know this, but if you don’t, you MUST watch it. Yes it is gory/medical but the characters are so fascinating that you can’t help but be hooked after one episode.
2. "Parenthood" -- All episodes on Netflix.
I will never forgive the CW for canceling "Parenthood." This show has everything, including amazing characters and plot lines. It is never cheesy or predictable, and I promise you will cry when you finish it.
3. "One Tree Hill" -- All episodes on Netflix.
This is my actual favorite show of all time, dead ass. I remember watching this show when it was on TV and I had to have been only in middle school. Then, it guided me through my "emo" stage and then healed me as it went on. The show is so aggressively emotional and people can only hope that we find as much love as the characters have for each other. It is intense, dramatic, but joyful too. A must watch.
4. "90210" -- All episodes on Netflix.
This is a show about the life we all wanted to live when we were in high school. Set in California about rich kids, it is a spinoff of the original "90210" from the '80s. This show is super dramatic but also very fun to watch. The characters will frustrate you to no end, but that’s also why you’ll rip through the whole series real quick.
5. "How I Met Your Mother" -- All episodes on Netflix.
This show was one of the first things I watch on Netflix, so I’ll never forget it. This show has a way of making you feel like you are a part of the character’s lives; like you’re one of their friends. If you watch it with someone else, you’ll have endless banter and inside jokes from this one. It is similar to "Friends," as most people say, but modern and fun.
6. "Happy Endings" -- All episodes on Hulu.
This show is similar to "How I Met Your Mother" and "Friends," with an even more modern twist. It takes place in Chicago, about a group of 20-somethings and their lives together. It is very funny and makes you consider Chicago and the cool people that you may find there. I was hooked after the pilot, and have been watching ever since.
7. "Jane the Virgin" -- Season 1 on Netflix, current episodes on Hulu.
I remember seeing signs for this show at the mall and thinking it would be about some pathetic lost girl but it is NOT. Jane is an amazing and inspiring character and the plot line is so insane that you have to watch out of sheer intrigue. Watch one episode of this show, and I promise you wont be able to turn it off.
8. "The Biggest Loser" -- All episodes on Hulu.
You need gym motivation? Watch this show. Like a good competition and the thrill of betting on who wins? Watch this show. "The Biggest Loser" is hopelessly addictive, because there is nothing better than watching someone change his or her life for good.
