Parting with a favorite show on Netflix is painful. My heart goes out to anyone experiencing that pain right now. Many times I have wished I could re-experience a show or movie for the first time. Here a few shows and movies on Netflix , as of right now, to hopefully help you along your healing process!
1. Shameless
Shameless is a must see series! I'm currently towards the end of the 6th season and I love the show. The show is hilarious but you still feel connected to the characters. It is absolutely outrageous and edgy so it's not something to watch with the kids! Shameless is a great show to watch if you're looking for a bit of everything - comedy, drama, mystery, action, and romance.
2. The Imitation Game
The Imitation Game is one a my favorite movies. It's based on the true story of Alan Turing. It's a historical film that takes place in World War Two. It is one of the best pieces of acting I've ever seen. Benedict Cumberbatch and Kiera Knightly gave stunning performances. I would watch this if you were looking for a thought - inducing, intellectually stimulating movie.
3. Stranger Things
Stranger Things was amazing. It's set in the 80s and really captures the essence of the era...so my parents say. I'm sure you've at least heard about the show or buzz surrounding the casts appearance on Jimmy Fallon. Stranger Things absolutely lives up to its hype. It's a total SciFi , but there are parts that scare me (Note: I scare easily).
4.The People V. O.J. Simpson
With an all star cast, you do not want to miss this show! True crime is hard to get right, but even harder with a case that was as publicized as the O.J. Simpson trial. The big name cast resulted in an amazing show that really captures how the culture changed and molded the O.J. trial. This is a true crime show! I usually watch these kinds of shows when I'm bored, because I find the plot twists get me out of my bored mood.
5. BoyHood
BoyHood is a very interesting film for many reasons. BoyHood is all about the pains of growing up, and going from a boy to man...hence the title. What is interesting is that BoyHood was actually filmed over 12 years. The crew would meet up once a year and film a few scenes. Rather than having 3 or 4 different actors play the same boy growing up it was just one actor. BoyHood is more of an experience rather then a plot heavy movie. The main purpose of the film was so show realism acting and the cast absolutely achieved that.
6. Freaks and Geeks
Another show that takes place in the 80's, but no supernatural forces in this one! Freaks and Geeks is mainly just about the struggles of growing up, and it's just as beautifully angsty as it sounds. It's also funny to see some Hollywood stars much younger as Freaks and Geeks Aired in 1999. As amazing as the show was, it was canceled after one season, So there is a bit of as cliff hanger feel to the series. Overall though, this show is hilariously relatable, and I fall in love with the characters every time I watch it. I can honestly watch this show whenever, because its so relatable.
7. Skins UK
I fell in love with this British tv show right away. It's interesting because the perspective changes each episode, and that really allows you to see into each character. You quickly will find your favorite characters and you will get way too emotionally involved. I personally am a fan of the first and second generation. This show is also a little bit edgy so VIEWERS ADVISED!
8. Big Eyes
Big Eyes is a fantastic film. Amy Adams is always great but her work in this film in particular surprised me. I also didn't know the back story to these familiar paintings so it was interesting to find out where they came from. I enjoyed the intense scenes in the film, but also have to give a big TRIGGER WARNING. The movie does central around an abusive relationship.
9. Louie
This show is totally underrated. Since I was familiar with Louie C.K.'s comedy I thought the show about himself would be only comedy. This show surprised me with its mind boggling abstractness. It was funny, but it shows the dark truth that is behind comedy. Louie is a crazy show that everyone should see.
10. How To Get Away With Murder
How To Get Away with Murder stars the amazing, Viola Davis. Davis's challengingly bold character is captured through her impressive acting skills that carry the show. The plot is filled with exciting twists that keep you easily engaged. This mystery, action filled, crime show is a great thriller for anyone.
11. Woman In Gold
Woman In Gold is a fantastic film. Helen Mirren and Ryan Reynolds together are endearing and a perfect match! The films historical scenes really bring you back to the time through the color and costumes and scenery. This inspiring film shows that there is no price on justice, and by the end you will be rooting for her for sure!
12. Finding Dory
So the list was getting a little heavy so I picked Finding Dory! Finding Dory is a great film for all ages. Its a colorful film that shows the beauty of sea life and is the sequel to Finding Nemo. Even in a children's movie Ellen Degeneres is absolutely hilarious! I loved Finding Dory and I watch it when I need to relax and remember the important things in life.
13. Sherlock
Sherlock is a great series to watch! Benedict Cumberbatch (one of my favorite actors in case you haven't caught on) really nails the arrogant intellectual rolls, so he is perfect as Sherlock. This interesting spin off on the classic story will get you quickly attached to all the characters. When I was watching Sherlock I was absolutely addicted - So you have been warned!
14. The Great Gatsby
I'm sure you have at least heard of The Great Gatsby! The Great Gatsby is a classic. If you have only seen the newer version, I would recommend seeing the original for sure. The acting in this film I feel is much more true to the books than the re-make. Daisy in particular is amazing in this film, her acting really displays the qualities the book wrote her as having.
15. Bobs Burgers
Last but certainly not least, Bobs Burgers. This animated comedy is hilarious! This odd family is both relatable and funny. It is always light, there is never really a heavy episode. It is a straight up comedy and I love it.
I hope everyone enjoys these movies and shows as much as I do!
