The University of Rochester's psychology department has been studying the effects of the mind and body when spending time outdoors.
Richard Ryan, who is a professor of psychology at the University of Rochester states "Nature is fuel for the soul."
"Often when we feel depleted we reach for a cup of coffee, but research suggest a better way to get energized is to connect with nature," he says.
I often find myself reading under a tree or walking through tree infested areas when I am stressed out. I receive a natural calm, and the weight of the world is lifted off my shoulders and blown away with the wind.
It was also mentioned that 20 minutes a day outdoors will boost vitality levels significantly.
The researchers also said some finding reported that people felt more alive and increased feelings of happiness and felt healthier. Other studies showed that 90 percent of people feel less exhausted participating in outdoor activities.
These findings are more of a reason to want to jump outside and get moving. When picking a college campus, home, or place to relax; look for trees, mountains, or nature parks because if we are one with nature, we need nature to surround us and embrace us.
