In case Y'all haven't heard, August 15th is National Relaxation Day. I know all these crazy "National Hot Dog Day" and "National Girlfriend Day" holidays drive some nuts, but who can pass up a day that's purely dedicated to pampering yourself and relaxing? Without further ado, here are fifteen ways you can kick up your feet and relax on August 15th.
1. If it's a sunny day, grab a lawn chair and bask in the sun for some time
There's nothing more relaxing than the beaming rays of the summer sun warming your skin. Just remember sunscreen, Y'all.
2. If it's rainy, curl up in bed with Netflix
On the opposite end of the spectrum, there's nothing more relaxing than the feeling of that computer getting all hot from up on top of your comforter. The sound of rain is pretty dang relaxing too.
3. Put down your phone for hours on end and focus on something totally you
Don't feel like dealing with the stress of answering eight thousand text messages about what's going on in your life, what you want to do, how you're going to do it? Don't feel like doing anyone any favors or being social? Attach your phone to the charger, walk away, and float away from the reality of obligation for a while.
4. Treat yo self - online shopping is a great way to do so
Whether you've got the money for a shopping spree at Forever 21 or just enough to buy that new mascara you've wanted off of Amazon, take a little time for yourself.
5. Eat whatever the hell you want
Ice cream? Go for it. Chips? All of it. Order in sushi? You better.
6. Don't bother getting all gussied up
Unless doing a full face of makeup and doing your hair perfectly makes you feel relaxed, don't bother. Throw on some comfy Norts, put that hair in a bun, and conserve the rest of your energy for tomorrow because it's National Relaxation Day, dammit.
7. Cuddle up to your dog/cat/hamster/lizard/whatever![]()
Nothing says relaxing like cuddling your pet and telling them over and over how much you love them. Scientifically proven to reduce stress, Y'all. Love on them.
8. Paint your toenails and smear on a face mask
Such a cliche thing to do when one thinks of relaxation, but hey why not? Throw on a cucumber-mint face mask and begin to feel automatically tingly and luxurious.
9. Take an extra breather from any work, school, or social obligations
Homework can wait ten more minutes, okay? And don't you dare agree to switch shifts with your co-worker. This day is all about relaxation.
10. Do something productive that also relaxes you
Cleaning out your closet? Baking cookies? Mindlessly folding laundry in front of the TV? Whatever. It's not only productive but also makes you feel calm and gives your brain a break from reality.
11. Talk on FaceTime with someone you've really missed
Your dad? Mom? Sister? Cousin? Best friend at a different college? Maybe some nice time "face to face" will help you relax and feel recharged.
12. Read a book
Whether it's your favorite book that you've read a million times or one that you've just heard is really fantastic, try to shut off your brain and read like nothing else in the world matters.
13. Have a glass (bottle) of wine
Don't even judge me on this one, everyone knows that wine is the coziest, most relaxing beverage around. Hot chocolate, tea, and coffee can step aside. When it's time for me to relax, you bet your sweet ass I've got my bottle of Barefoot sauvignon blanc or merlot to keep me company.
14. Exercise (hear me out)
Yoga and components of yoga have been proven to be very relaxing and soothing. Whether you feel like working out hardcore or just doing light breathing exercises, you'll be sure to feel relaxed after you've managed to sweat a little
15. Take a nap
Honestly, this is always my go-to in terms of how to relax. See ya later, world!
Happy National Relaxation Day!
