When You Find That One Movie Than Inspires You...
Into Film

In response to The Movie That Has Changed Me

When a movie has an impact it’s pretty easy to see.

But if you are impacted by film in any way, hold onto it. Because I promise it has the possibility to change your life. It has the possibility to change you or your outlook on life.

If you think I sound silly, I don’t care.

I will use the movie that started all the magic for me. This being The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe which released in 2005.

Back in 2018 I wrote an article about the life lessons learnt from this movie and the book which you can read here.

My point is, I watched this movie when I was 7 and the impact it has was insane. It made me want to read the rest of the Narnia books. The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe was the first book I ever read cover to cover by myself.

The magical land of Narnia made me want to write my own stories and create my own fairy tale lands, characters and send them on thrilling adventures. The film adaptation has played a huge part in who I am today.

Like I said, it inspired me so much. I'm convinced I wouldn't be writing now if it wasn't for the 2005 adaptation of the movie. Which is why it shall always hold a special place in my heart.

As a child, there was just something so deeply magical about Narnia and everything it stood for. The characters were just wonderful, and remain so to this day.

Andrew Adamson's vision as a director is something I will always be grateful for. He turned the movies into something so magical, that even in my twenties I get excited even just thinking about it.

Not only was the visual aesthetic of the movie pleasing, but also the music. To me, nothing will ever compare with the magnificent music that was composed by Harry Gregson-Williams. There is something to beautifully haunting and impactful about his music that it will always stick with me.

Only recently, I learned that Adamson and Williams also teamed up for the Shrek movies and suddenly it makes so much sense why I also love those movies so much. Just proof that the right people can have such a positive impact.

The joy that comes with this movie is something I will always cherish. Not only shall I always remember seeing it in the cinemas for the very first time with my grandparents, but I will remember the other memories I made surrounding this movie. I will remember the sick days off school and I'd lie on the sofa and watch it with my grandfather until I fell asleep, but he still kept it playing in the background. I will remember how my friends and I would take turns reading the book to one another in the schoolyard.

So many things to cherish because of the movie. I am truly thankful.

Being able to escape to Narnia was something I always wanted to do as a child, honestly I wouldn't pass the opportunity up as an adult, either. But the escapism this movie provided was something I clearly needed. Even when I didn't realise, it was healing me. The movie was changing me. And because of it, it's made me who I am today.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
