Thoughts I Had Watching "Chronicles Of Narnia" As A Young Adult

I decided, on a whim, to rewatch one of my childhood favorites and oh, how my thoughts have changed!

I've been a nerd from a young age. I talk about the characters in books, movies

and television shows like they're real (they totally are) and, according to my mother, that's "absolutely hilarious." Although I'm a bit of a "late bloomer" when it comes to reading series at the same time everyone else does. For example, I didn't read "Harry Potter" in elementary school, when all of my friends did. I read the entire series and watched all the movies for the first time during my sophomore year in high school. The same goes for "The Twilight Saga." One series I adored when I was younger, and even more now as a young adult, is "The Chronicles of Narnia" by C.S. Lewis. I went to see all of the movies in theaters and had Lucy's haircut from the first movie when it was still cool. But it wasn't until recently that I started reading the books for the first time. A few weeks ago I finished "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe," and decided to re-watch the movie. These are all of my thoughts watching it as a young adult.

1. The cloudy intro kind of reminds me of Harry Potter, until I saw planes instead of broomsticks.

2. I forgot this movie was set around World War II time.

3. Edmund is still a brat but it's totally middle child syndrome.

4. How does the mom even know the professor?

5. I forgot how majestic this movie score is... *immediately looks up album on Spotify*

6. Mrs. Macready is totally Mr. Dursley- expecting the kids to not be seen or heard. What kid is like that?

7. This movie actually does a pretty good job of following the book's events.

8. These kids ARE the HP Hogwarts houses: "Peter Pevensie, Gryffindor! Susan Pevensie, Ravenclaw! Edmund Pevensie, Slytherin! Lucy Pevensie, Hufflepuff!"

9. The Pevensie children seem constantly aware of the war until they find Narnia. That's like their refuge.

10. I want to know how the professor knows what he does about Narnia...has he gone there before through the wardrobe?? If so, I need a story written about him pronto.

11. I just realized Mr. Tumnus is the guy from "X Men." Wow...took me long enough...

12. Lucy and Mr. Tumnus' friendship is adorable but slightly creepy if it were real-- given the fact that he was originally going to kidnap her for the White Witch.

13. I AM LUCY PEVENSIE WOW

14. How and why does the wardrobe mysteriously close when Lucy tries to show it to the others?

15. Why in the world would Lucy go back to Narnia when she knows the White Witch is looking for her?

16. I used to really want Turkish Delight when I was a kid. Now? Not so much...

17. The White Witch is WAY darker than I remember...and I used to be extremely scared of her!

18. Edmund eating and drinking the Witch's treats really enforces that whole, "Beware of strangers with treats" thing.

19. All of the parallels between this series and the bible (like Aslan being God and the White Witch being the devil) is even cooler now that I understand it more.

20. I adore the professor. He's so quirky and sarcastic and insightful!

21. Where is this filmed?! I need to vacation here! *finds out it was in front of a green screen*

22. The White Witch is literally the Evil Queen, Medusa, and Elsa all wrapped into one being.

23. I want a life-size replica of Lucy's healing cordial. I have no idea what I'd do with it, I just want it...

24. LUCY PEVENSIE IS SUCH A SAVAGE!

25. William Moseley is handsome, but Ben Barnes is gorgeous...

26. Mr. and Mrs. Beaver are literally my parents...

27. The river looks like they put food coloring in it, it's THAT blue.

28. I thought it was "Camp Paravel," not "Cair Paravel." My childhood is a lie...

29. The White Witch coming into the camp and reprimanding Aslan really ticks me off. "Do not cite the Deep Magic to me, witch. I was there when it was written." YOU GO ASLAN, YOU TELL HER!

30. Aslan looks so tired after he secretly sacrifices himself...I just want to hug him...

31. Liam Neeson's voice is so majestic as Aslan. OMG.

32. Why does this movie make me teary...it's a children's movie! I must be turning into my mother...

33. Oh, you just wait...He'll be back. NOBODY PUTS ASLAN IN A CORNER! (Okay, I seriously need to stop now)

34. Peter is legit riding a unicorn as his battle horse...goals

35. This is the most aesthetically pleasing battle scene I've ever seen.

36. Is that a minotaur?!

37. Oh...he has TWO swords...dang

38. How did all of Aslan's fur grow back in 0.5 seconds? Because he's Aslan, that's why.

39. Is the White Witch's battle gear resembling a lion supposed to be some smug joke...because no.

40. That centaur just pulled out a THIRD sword, where the heck does he stash them?!

41. Aslan breathes on the beings Jadis turned into stone and they come back to life...(gasps) the breath of life!

42. Is it just me, or did Edmund grow a few feet between the beginning and end of the movie? How long did it take them to film this anyway?

43. Okay, I know he just almost got killed, but that is an excellent camera angle for that stunt.

44. "IT IS FINISHED" I'm noticing so much about this movie now!

45. Can I buy that castle somewhere? *I say with impending student debt.*

46. Lucy is literally like 8-years-old and is a queen. I was still playing with Barbies at 8-years-old...

47. Aslan and Nanny McPhee could be like best friends.

48. Omg...Fall in Narnia is gorgeous!

49. Older Lucy is played by Georgie Henley's real older sister...brilliant.

50. I NEED the other four "Narnia" movies to be a thing.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
