Narcos is one of the most entertaining shows of the Fall. It follows the story of the world’s most notorious drug kingpin, Pablo Escobar, and the men who were brave enough to go after him. The beauty of this story is that it is depicted through a TV show and not as a film. This series is great not just because of the superb acting, but also because of the raw and realistic depiction of the grizzly drug war that was waged between the Medellin Cartel and the DEA.
The show is narrated by DEA agent Steve Murphy, an American brought to Columbia to help lead the Colombian government against the ruthless drug lords that are tearing their country apart. Escobar has every powerful person in the country in his pocket, from police officers to judges, and there seems to be no one else that he cannot buy. Only a few intrepid DEA agents like John Murphy, Horatio Carrillo, and Javier Pena remain, setting out to bring down Colombia’s drug syndicate.
The quality of every episode, with its excellent writing and stunning camera work, makes it seem like you are in the exotic jungles and the rundown streets of Columbia. Every viewer will quickly realize the biggest shock for this show is that it’s based on a true story. When you see the merciless killings, the greedy and corrupt officials, and the ruthless backstabbing betrayals, your jaw will drop knowing that these events actually happened.
This show is extremely addicting because of the great plot and engaging story line that switches viewpoints from Pablo Escobar’s, his hit-men’s, and even the detectives desperately trying to bring the crime boss to justice. You will plunge deep into the dark world of the Medellin Cartel and see how Pablo Escobar become the wealthiest criminal in history. This show will keep you guessing and begging for more long after the credits roll. This is one of the best Netflix original series I have seen and I recommend it to anyone who is looking for an engrossing historical drama.
