A Thank You to My Person

Peanut butter to jelly and Christina Yang to Meredith Grey. We've all got a person we owe some extra love and thanks to everyday.

A Thank You to My Person
Callie Rieder

I'm thankful for people, and the fact that we don't do this life alone. I'm extra thankful for those who choose to do life with us by choice. Especially those you stick through thick and thin, ups and downs, joys and trials the type of friend who is forever, your person. Maybe we don't say it enough, let people know how thankful we are for them.

Have you thanked your friend lately?

Thank you for having my back, always. Even when I've tried to act tough and be on my own there was comfort knowing you would be there in a heartbeat.

Thank you for being my friend when no one else was. I was the new kid thrown into school and you picked me right up (literally).

Thank you for having my best interest at heart. You've given me tough love when I didn't want it and space to crumble into a million pieces when I needed it.

Thank you for making me part of the family. Birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, grandparents' masses, sleepovers, and lunches with notes in them. I never felt out of place, I was loved.

Thank you for trusting me. For letting me be your secret keeper and confidant and doing the same for me. I always knew it was safe with you.

For loving me like no man ever will. Because you are my soul mate and know me better than anyone else. One day our husbands will understand that.

Thank you for forgiving me. When I've had moments of being a crappy or selfish friend you've taken me back and looked through the muck of being human. (Like that one time in high school? #sorry)

Thank you for laughing at me. Being a reminder that I can't take myself, or this mess of a life too seriously. For giving me laughs and joy in all circumstances.

Thank you for pushing me to Christ. Through guidance and through walking the good fight side by side, you've held me accountable to His promises.

Thank you for being my iron.

Thank you for being my friend.

Call, text, write, snapchat, post it, share it, comment but do whatever it takes to remind your friend that today you are thankful for them. Cause what would we do without them?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
