To My Friends From High School

An open letter to everyone I've grown close with my four years.

To My Friends From High School

Dear friends from High School,

I have met all of you through some type of weird consequence. Whether it be from meeting a life long friend by accidentally being placed in a gym class, growing closer through a summer of constant Facebook messages, making constant jokes in our Portuguese class, acting on stage with each of you, and finding a family after being forced into a group of strange singers. I'm here to tell you that if not for you, everything in high school would've been completely different. Even if we may not have been super close, you all have touched me in some type of way, more than you could all know. So I decided to address each of you properly, just so you so know how important you all.

To my group of singing and dancing friends, I still can't believe you all talked me into doing that. Though I had known many of you previously, joining a group of wacky singers was the best. From those heartfelt moments in practice, all though to all of you having to put up with my constant coughing after that freezing bus ride, I couldn't ask for anything better and I miss each of you greatly.

My fellow theater geeks, my have we had some times. In and out of class/practice, I think I got to know a group of the most talented individuals I had ever met. From a girl who skipped wherever she walked, an edgy girl who was the first to buy you presents to make sure you felt perfect, a guy's whose mind was the fascinating thing I had ever seen, all the to a girl who dreamed of becoming Hollywood famous, there was never a dull moment with any of you.

To the little flower who had blossomed since I first met you, I hope you're doing well. Though we may not have started off on the right foot, the bonding in Geometry was always the best. And besides, I always have you think thank for forcing me to join your group of singers. Don't ever change that bubbly attitude of yours. It's what makes you a sunflower to so many people, including myself.

To the short girl I've bonded with over the past year, and is still here to this day, I promise things will get better. Life is hard now I'm aware, but you must stand tall (or at least the tallest you can) and never be afraid to show who you are. People may change and others may not like you but you are strong enough to push through all of it. I look forward to our future chats when life gets rough.

Now the Kool Kids. I have no idea where to even begin. We are a strange group aren't we? A boisterous voice actor, a dancer, a religious nut, a fire Latino, and a Gaisy. We have been through so much in the past two years. From complicated relationships, to small civil wars, we've finally been able to settle down. Though we may never see each other as often as we may wish, you're always here with me. And besides, when we all do see each other again, it's always the best days. There's never a dull moment with any of you and we're always here for each other, even on the darkest days. For that, I love all of you.

All of you will hold a place in my heart, and I shall never forget any of you.

Love,

Devon

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
