My Wish To 2017

Here's to the new year.

As 2016 is coming to an end (which seems crazy), I have a lot on my mind. 2016 was going to be "my year", just like each year before that was going to be as well. You know how that goes. It wasn't a terrible year, I had some good times. However, I don't think it quite lived up to the "my year" expectations that I have created in my head over time. For 2017, I'm trying something different. I'm throwing out the common term "New Year's resolution" because if we're being honest, those never last long for me anyways. Although similar to resolutions, I'm resorting to wishing, and these are a few of my wishes:

I WISH...

1. to be strong enough to leave behind the toxic people in my life, no matter how hard it is

2. to have the opportunity to travel somewhere new

3. to meet some special people, to make new and meaningful friendships

4. to forgive the people who have hurt me, even in the absence of apologies

5. to stop comparing to others and realize the beauty in myself instead

6. to do more for others, to help others in any way I can

7. to be more patient in all situations *this one is going to take some heavy wishing*

8. to spend more time smiling, and less time stressing over things / people that won't matter in the long run

9. to accomplish the goals I set by believing in myself

10. to set time aside from my responsibilities to do the things that make me happy

Only time can tell if wishes come true, but it's worth a shot, right? Here's to 2017. After all, this just might be my year.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

The Importance Of Being A Good Person

An open letter to the good-hearted people.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
