One Last Trip For Summer Vacation

A trip to Boston.

One Last Trip For Summer Vacation

This whole summer went by pretty quick, but not as quick as the past summers. I feel like that is because it was my first time working in the summer. It was different but worth it after getting those pay checks. Once work ended I realized how soon the semester would start. I wouldn't say that I'm upset or that I wasted my summer working because I knew I would be working all summer before summer vacation started and I was glad because if I wasn't working, I would be doing nothing but sitting on my laptop watching Netflix, eating tons of junk food and probably be really bored. Maybe I could go out occasionally to get some sun, but other than that I can guarantee that I would be doing nothing productive. So it was better to occupy myself. That's why I applied for a job. And because most of my closest friends I hang out with were going away. So I would be extra bored.

So the job sounded like a good idea--and it was. I worked with kids the whole summer. While it may have been a hassle dealing with some of them from 9am to 5pm, at least I was doing something. This summer was pretty productive for me. Not only did get in some good exercise from walking to work and back home, but learned a lot of new card games that are pretty addicting. And found myself making at least four different lanyard designs.

After work ended, I realized I did have some time off and I didn't want to spend it doing nothing. I wanted to make the best of what was left before the stress kicks in for the semester. So my sister planned a trip to Boston and of course I tagged along. The trip didn't take long. Some may argue that a five hour road trip would be hell, which is true, but it was a pleasant one all the least.

Boston isn't much different from the city in New York. The area that I was in, Downtown Boston, was very much like a mini Manhattan. The cabs, the tour buses, tall buildings and of course the tourists, us. Though I do have to admit one thing I noticed right away was the streets and sidewalks were spotless! And not a pot hole in sight. The city of Boston also gave off a very calm vibe.

I was pretty keen on hoping I would meet someone or hear a true Boston accent but that never happened. Nonetheless, I did have a really nice time. My favorite sight was heading up the Prudential Tower and looking down at all of Boston and watching the city lights go on.

I have nothing but good memories from my trip. There was a lot of walking, so much walking I felt my feet go numb. It was just easier for us to walk to where we needed to be instead of always taking the car. The only thing that really bugged me was from all the walking we did was we passed by over 20 banks, none of them were Chase. My sister told me I should withdraw some cash before we drive up to Boston, but I figured Chase is everywhere, or so I thought. I got so frustrated but found it hilarious that I couldn't find a Chase bank. So I thought maybe we could find a Duane Read, which has a Chase ATM. The only pharmacies we passed by were CVS and Walgreens, and we passed many of them.

In the end, it wasn't too bad that I didn't find a Chase because everywhere we went accepted card (thank God), except for the bubble tea truck, that only accepted cash, but my brother paid for that so no worries on my end.

I would definitely recommend a trip to Boston if anyone is interested, but one thing for sure is that if you bank with Chase withdrawal cash before you go. But if you bank with TD, Bank of America or Santander, then you're fine. I know it sounds weird I was frustrated about not finding a Chase but in my defense I see a Chase bank everywhere in NYC. I pass by two on my way to work and one near my home. And Chase says they're everywhere. I guess not in Boston. I have nothing but good things to say about Boston. It truly was a great way to end summer vacation.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
