Every family tends to have things they do multiple times in their lives. More or less they are yearly things. I would consider these kind of things traditions. My family typically has a set of traditions that we do every Christmas.
We start with Black Friday where my Mom, Nanny and me get up early on Black Friday morning to spend the day shopping. This is where we get a lot of our shopping done. Then the Saturday after Thanksgiving we always go to the Wallington Christmas parade. This parade is held where my Nanny and Pop live in Wallington. It is where fire trucks from all different states and towns near by come and decorate their trucks with lights and different decorations just like floats. Other people do different things, like have bands and characters with them on the truck or cars. It is a really fun parade, and really loud!
Next is Christmas Eve. On Christmas Eve, we all gather at my Nanny and Pop's house. We get holy bread that has been blessed by a Priest. We then take turns from oldest to youngest, saying what we wish for them in the new year. This takes at least a good hour or almost two. Then, following this we have Christmas Eve dinner. For us, it is an all homemade Polish dinner. We have homemade pierogies and babka. We make potatoes, sauerkraut, and sometimes prune or other fruit pierogies. This is a yummy and traditional dinner for us on Christmas Eve.
Then there is Christmas Day. Me and My brother have personal trees in our rooms. So on Christmas morning, my Mom will come upstairs and we will come in my room and open the ornaments that her and my Dad give us for our tree that year. After that, we go downstairs and we open our gifts from "Santa" and our parents, and we also do the stockings that we all get. Then, we hang out for a little before getting dressed to go down to my Nanny and Pops. When we are there, we spend the whole rest of day opening presents, and afterwards, me and Pop read out all the tags and hand out all the gifts. We spend the day together, and it's the best way to spend the holiday.
