My Top 5 Favorite Quotes from Queen of Katwe
Oh my Disney

The movie, Queen of Katwe is a biographical sports drama film produced by Disney, starring David Oyelowo, Lupita Nyong'o, and Madina Nalwanga, the film depicts the life of Phiona Mutesi, a Ugandan girl living in a slum in Katwe who learns to play chess and becomes a Woman Candidate Master after her performances at World Chess Olympiads. (Wikipedia).

The plot of the movie centers around Phiona, a girl who lived in the slum of katwe with her single mother and three other siblings,in Uganda. Her world is rapidly changed after being introduced to the game of chess by Katende. This movie shows all the struggles, trials and tribulation almost everybody faces when trying to accomplish her task. The movies shows the strength and determinedness of this young girl to succeed. It also depicts the mother's beautiful character in protecting her children. It also shows the constant struggle that her and her family struggled with while living in the slum and dealing with their ever changing life.

This movie went through every sense of emotion i could think about. It’s full of so much love and tenderness that it will warm even the coldest of hearts. It’s based on a true story and told so well you’ll feel guilty for not having heard it before.

I decided to list my top 5 Favorite Quotes from the movie:

1. Sometimes the place you are used to is not the place you belong.

This quote resounds with me because, it talks about being too comfortable in life. Sometimes, when one is to comfortable and does not want to move, one tends to limit their full potential. Sometimes, challenges help us become stronger and better, it makes us reach the potential Christ has for us. Diamonds pass through many rough and hard processes to come out beautiful and amazing

2. You belong where you believe you belong.

For me, this quotes talks about self belief. A lot of people undermine the beautiful and wonderful talents they have, the fail to have faith in what they can do. They usually depict lack of self-belief and thats why some people don't succeed. We all should look at our futures with belief in both God and ourselves and you would go places.

3. Your children are blessed because they have a mother who never gives up on them.

This hits home for me, being able to have beautiful hardworking mother like mine, I am where I am today. My mother lost her husband when I was 2 and single handedly raised four children. I was the last child and I had three other senior siblings. My mother worked double shifts, had more than two jobs and still had time for us. She never gave up on us, My mother was always there for us, she always showed positivity and her faith in God never relented. I would not be here today if not for my MOTHER. I love you Mum.

4. "What matters is when you reset the pieces and play a game.”

The conversation was between Phiona and her coach, Katende. Phiona asked him, "Coach, you told us to make a plan but I fear things will never change.” and the above quote was her reply. That reply was just beautiful, I connected in to so many issues and hurdles I face. What happens when your plan does not go as you planned? Do you Stop and give up? We should take pause on those issues, reset the pieces and play the game.

5. “Losing teaches me to play better.”- Phiona

In life, failures are almost always certain. It is how we deal with our failures that usually determine our success. This quote made me think deep about life, losing taught how to be better. It made her able to learn from her mistakes and try harder. When we fail, we should not sulk, but look at where we wrong and try to correct those mistakes.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
