Christmas is always a special time of friends and family. Although, Christmas, to me, means getting to spend the time to watch movies. For instance, last Christmas I saw 3 new movies that came out to theaters, along with watching "White Christmas" with my family. It's a wonderful season to relax and truly spend time watching movies. I was brainstorming to find the inspiration behind this week's article and my brother gave me the great idea to share with the world my top 10 favorite Christmas movies. This list is the top 10 best Christmas movies to me.
10. "Jack Frost"
Sad movies have always had a special place in my heart. I specifically remember watching "Jack Frost" as a kid and feeling emotionally unstable. A kid's father, (Michael Keaton), dies in a car wreck at the beginning of the film. Being close to my dad, this movie hits home. Fortunately, there is a happy ending, but not to spare a couple of tears to get there.
9. "The Polar Express"
Honestly, it's a good story and I love Tom Hanks.
8. "Home Alone"
"Home Alone" is one of the most original movies I have ever seen. Along with the story, the acting is pretty good for McCaulay Culkin. I say that since some child actors are really not that talented. This movie has it all, especially surrounding Christmas. Mainly a comedy, but it's clean with family-fun action.
7. "Scrooged"
"Scrooged" is a different take on the story, "A Christmas Carol" . However, this is modernized with Bill Murray playing Ebenezer Scrooge. I would say the best part about this movie is Murray. The comedy in this film is a little more dark than usual, but for being a Christmas movie, it hits all the right tones.
6. "Christmas with the Kranks"
"Christmas with the Kranks" is definitely in my top three actual Christmas. The plot is great, the acting is great, and I absolutely love to see Tim Allen face off against Dan Akroyd. The comedy in this film is outstanding.
5. "Lethal Weapon"
With "Lethal Weapon" coming at number 5, this is more of an action comedy more so than an actual Christmas movie, but when there is a christmas tree in the main characters living room, I consider the film a Christmas movie. The duo of Mel Gibson and Danny Glover deliver a remarkable film as two cops trying to solve a murder. Just be sure to catch this one on tv as it is not as friendly as the others.
4. "Home Alone 2"
I personally like "Home Alone 2" more so than the first. The sequel is just as simple as the first when it comes to plot and script, but I like how the second shows Kevin exploring New York and truly being alone. Although, the best part is the end when he goes to his oh so convenient 'being worked on' uncle's house, just full of tricks to use on the burglars.
3. "Jingle All the Way"
"Jingle All the Way " is another father-son movie revolving around Christmas. However, this time Arnold Schwarzenegger is the father and becomes the great Turbo Man. Schwarzenegger does one of his usual screaming moments where he looks as if he is about to pop a blood vessel. Mostly comedy, a little bit of action, but all Christmas.
2. "Die Hard"
Nakatomi plaza, Christmas Eve, John McClane must face off against German terrorists. This action movie is a lot more Christmas than Lethal Weapon, given it does take place on the night before the big day. And there is definitely a bad guy with a Santa hat at one point in the film. Another similar aspect to Lethal Weapon is the more adult theme, which means stick to the AMC version.
1. "Christmas Vacation"
National Lampoon's "Christmas Vacation" is my all time favorite Christmas movie. Almost the entire film is drop dead hilarious. Chevy Chase leads the cast as delisciously funny family trys to host a good Christmas. From getting locked in the attic to having your crazy brother show up, this movie shows how crazy Christmas can get.
