My parents were at every play, every game, every school event. My mom was always the team mom. My dad headed some of the clubs I was in. My point is, my parents were very involved in my life, and I'm so thankful for that. They raised me to be who I am today and words cannot explain how thankful I am for them.
Being an independent person was always important to my parents. They made me order my own food, ask store employees for help, and fix my own problems. All of these things may not seem like a big deal, but they broke me out of my shy shell that I had created before I was even old enough to realized I had made it.
Hopeful
My parents taught me that even when times are tough, they get better. That's important to remember. Sometimes when I'm sitting, studying for an anatomy test for the 29th hour, and I think that life really sucks, I remember that eventually the test will be done and someday, instead of taking a test on this, I'll be actually using this knowledge.
Kind
I was sitting at the train station on my way home for spring break and a homeless man asked me (as well as everyone around me) for money, I didn't shoo him away like everyone else did, I started talking to him and asked him why he actually needed money. As it turns out, he hadn't eaten in almost two days, and he just wanted some food. So I gave him a few granola bars.
Ambitious
Whether it's a stupid group project in history class or a job interview for a great summer job, my parents taught me to take on the task at hand with ambition and enjoy myself. Everything can be fun if you make it fun.
Respectful
Treating the CEO with the same respect you treat the janitor is important. Everyone is just as human as you are, and they deserve respect.
Honest
Sometimes situations get tough and it's hard to be honest with yourself and the people around you, my parents taught me that truly, honesty is the best policy. Being upfront and honest is the best route and it should always be taken.
Smart
My mom has this saying (she probably didn't make it up, but still): "just gotta fake it 'til you make it." There are bound to be times where you don't know what you're doing or what to even do. But my parents taught me how to act in a smart manner and how to fake it until I actually do know what I'm doing.
My parents raised me to be a great person. I am truly thankful for every opportunity and lesson they have presented me with and will forever be grateful for them.
