Some people are luckier than others when it comes to money. There are people who work their tails off just to have enough to get by, then there are others that sit on a couch all day and wait for their parents to hand them money. Money is the central issue that starts many arguments within families, while in others it's not a problem at all.
I grew up in a moderate income household. Both of my parents had jobs that paid the bills with extra spending money left over. My parents paid for everything I needed, even when I got my own job. My parents still pay for everything of mine. My parents pay for me to have a life. I will admit I am spoiled, but I don't let that affect my actions. I do not flaunt what I have and I don't judge others for not having the same things as me.
I am blessed beyond belief to be able to say that my parents and grandparents have saved the money up for me to attend school, to pay my rent and other bills, and give me extra spending money for me to have a life. I have money saved up in my savings and I do have a job, in which my dad still tries to help me manage my own money (I like to shop and go out to eat...a lot).
People spend so much time talking about how spoiled some kids are because their parents pay for nearly everything that they have. But what we don't talk about is how it's totally okay to have your parents as financial stability and be 18 years or older. What's not okay is if someone isn't working or isn't trying to find work, doesn't do anything all day besides eat and watch Netflix, doesn't work their tail off to get exceptional grades, and still lives off his or her parents' money.
There is also the topic of scholarships. Some people were smart enough or talented enough to win scholarships, whether it be for athletics or academics. Unfortunately, I was not one of those people. I applied for several different scholarships and not one came my way. I still applied and tried, though. This happens to several other students that plan to attend college.
I would love more than anything to pay for everything on my own so my parents don't have to worry about their own bills and my bills, but it's just not possible right now. I am lucky enough to have parents that understand that. My parents want me to acquire a stellar education at the school of my dreams, and want to help me while doing so. My parents could have easily told me that I just had to take out loans, which might be here in the near future, but instead they gave me a chance. The next time someone tells you that their parents pay for their college, don't judge them or look at them like they are a snob. Their parents may pay for their college, but they might have a job and work their butts off themselves as well, so that they can have money for their own future.
To my parents: thank you for allowing me to have a life. Without you, almost everything would be impossible.
