Dear, Mom

Thank you.

Thank you for spending countless hours with me. Whether it's the shopping days, the Starbucks visits, or the movie nights at home with endless ice cream and popcorn, the time I spend with you makes up some of my favorite memories. We can be goofy, or we can be serious. Either way, I love that we can bond so easily. We turn a boring Sunday into a full day of fun. The best days are the ones where I am by your side.

Thank you for talking me through the best and worst days. Everyone has their ups and downs, but I know I couldn't have gotten through any of it without you. You somehow always know exactly what to say, even if I don't understand it at the time. I don't know how you do it. I trust you with everything because you have always been my best friend. You are so smart! And so wise! I will never take your wisdom for granted.

Thank you for taking care of me. I got sick a lot when I was a kid, and I always knew exactly who to go to. You would make me toast in the middle of the night when I was sick to my stomach. You took me straight to the doctor when my throat started to hurt. You put ice on my forehead when I had the worst migraines. I used to think that you were pretty much a doctor. To this day, you are the person I go to when I'm feeling sick. I appreciate every little thing you did for me when I was under the weather.

Thank you for letting me do the things that I love. You and Dad paid for it all. Lacrosse fees, voice lessons, and so much more. You always pushed me to try new things. It didn't always work out, but sometimes it helped me find new passions. Now, you're helping me pay for things like college. Because of you, I'm attending a school I love and studying the major I love.

Thank you for being you. I can't say it enough. I love you more than words can describe.

Happy Mother's Day!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
