People ask me all the time, "Why teaching?" And it feels like every time I say the same thing: "I want to make a difference in people's lives." While this reason is 100% true, you don't realize how true it is until it actually happens.
I am in my second level of teaching clinicals where I go into schools and teach four lessons in the span of a semester. I taught my first lesson on Friday and KILLED IT. Not like that matters, but after I taught the lesson the students came up to me and told me that they never wanted me to leave. I have never felt the amount self satisfaction than I did at that time. Friday solidified my idea of what I want to do with my future.
When I see that my students are comprehending what I'm trying to teach, I feel so happy and proud that they are learning. It reminds me of when I used to tutor my brother in math when we were younger. That inspired me to continue doing what made me happy so I decided to be an education major.
I want to be an inspiration to my kids. I want to be that teacher that my students come back to year after year to tell me what they are doing with their lives now. I haven't had many teachers in my life that I cared to ever talk to once I leave the classroom so I want to be that person. With third graders, they're always happy and shouldn't have a care in the world but when they do, I want to be someone that they can come to. After all, sometimes students spend more time with their teachers than they do with their families. The students spend eight hours or more of their days at school, so you might as well establish some kind of relationship with them. If you show that you care about them, then they will care more about doing their best for you and their class.
I'm sure there are tons more reasons why I want to be a teacher that I will find out in the coming months and years, but for now, I hope everyone that reads this will find the same satisfaction with whatever they choose to do with their lives as I have with teaching already.
Thank you for reading!
