For those of you who have already been through your first year of college, you know one of the first things that others ask you about is your college roommate. For those of you who are about to start your freshman year of college or will be going into college in the future, you will realize the stress of finding a roommate. Once you have found your roommate you'll begin to understand the crazy things that will happen between you two. This one is for the college roommate.
Besides the string of questions of, “How is college going?”, “How is school?”, and “How is being away from home?", the next question will always be, “How is your college roommate?”. Well, let me tell you about mine.
Finding a roommate was a weird process to partake in. Having a computer randomly match you with someone who you’re going to spend your first year of college with and live with for the next year seems a bit odd. Although you quickly realize that besides Facebook, it is going to be your only option unless you happen to know someone else attending the school with you. When I first got a hold of my roommate, I had many emotions rushing through my head. I was wondering is this person going to be crazy, is she going to like me, and most importantly is she going to snore. The first time meeting your roommate is weird. You guys are forced to live together, yet know nothing about the one another.
A few days after we moved in I was already questioning whether or not I could live with her for a whole year. She was messy, slept in almost the whole entire day, and she was a little weird. Although as the minutes turned into days, and the days turned into months, I realized that the system got it right and they matched me with someone who I now call my best friend. I could not imagine sharing a closet size room with anyone else.
You were not only my roommate but you became my best friend, my go to, and my person. Even though we had our ups and downs and there were times when we wanted to kill each other I could not of imagined my first year with anybody else. Thank you for all the crazy adventures; whether it be dancing in our room causing a ruckus or staying up with me all night just cracking jokes and laughing hysterically. I got so lucky to be paired with someone as genuine, kind, and down to earth as you. Not everyone gets blessed with the perfect roommate, and I am so happy that I got paired with you. Thanks for being straight up with me and giving me advice when I needed it. From all the little things; helping me pick out an Instagram filter, helping me pick out an outfit, or doing my hair and make up — you truly were the best. Over the past year we created such a special bond that you know what I am thinking, or wanting to say just by looking at my facial expressions. You have seen me at my worst, like when I wake up in the morning, and you have seen me at my best. The fact that you were able to put up with me for a whole year was such an amazing thing and I am happy that you did. Thanks for being so random and so weird with me and doing the craziest stuff that other people else probably would of called housing about. Even on the days where we would fight it was impossible to go 24 hours without talking to you. I realized that you are my family away from family, in health or in sickness. You grew to be a sister to me and someone that I probably could not have survived my first year of college without. We may have not of had it all together individually but, together, we had it all.
