So I didn't have much time to write a real article this week and it's three and a half hours before I hit submit so I'm just gonna group my favorite channels and explain each one. Starting with:
News Entertainment
You know those stories that local news stations run when they're low on actual important/depressing news? If you wanna watch content that's just that then I recommend.
Desus and Mero/Bodega Boys - Yes I know that Desus and Mero is technically a TV show but i watch it on Youtube so it counts. Essentially it's a show where two friends from the Bronx watch videos and crack jokes at everyone's expense including their own. Also if you wanna watch Desus and Mero without all that pesky "editing" and "production value" then the Bodega Boys podcast is for you.
ETC Show Internet Today - Former hosts of ETC Show, Ricky and Elliot, have left the nest known as Machinima to forge their own path and have rebranded as Internet Today. Focusing on Tech, Entertainment, and just generally weird news, they've started to branch out to other projects, like their new anime podcast "Idiots Watching Anime."
Joe Budden Podcast - If you're a hip hop fan there's a good chance that you already watch this, but even if you aren't it's just a funny show. Way funnier than that stupid podcast by that other dude named Joe who commentates MMA. Joe Budden and his friends Rory, Mal, and Parks(Who's always offscreen) talk about the most recent happenings in the world of Rap, their personal lives, and Twitter posts that have blown up in the past week for about two and a half hours and basically every party of it is great.
Think Pieces and Video Essays
Do you wanna hear someone smarter than you talk about something for like 20-45 minutes? Here you go:
Contrapoints - Contrapoints (Especially her new videos) is probably has the most terrifying fascinating videos in this list. All of her videos address social issues in way that I've never seen, with trippy visual skits and in-depth debates with colorful characters(All played by herself). It's hard to explain in words so you should just watch for yourself.
Shaun - Probably the least searchable Youtuber on this list. Similar to Contra, Shaun makes videos that address social issues, although his videos come without all the extra flair. Instead of all the skits and visual, Shaun opts for a plain blank screen with his avatar (a skull wearing sunglasses) in the center. Occasionally, he'll put a graphic on screen to source an article or show a statistic but aside from that it's usual just a point blank opinion piece spoken by a witty guy with an English accent.
Lindsay Ellis - If you wish that film students talked about movies other than the ones that have been analyzed to death, Lindsay Ellis is where you'll find that. This includes a seven-part series where she breaks down why the Transformers films are so forgettable which is both hilarious and informative.
Food Channels
Have you ever tried to cook for yourself and look up a recipe on youtube only to feel like garbage because you can't copy what they did or you don't have the ingredients? Then you'd love these channels
Tasty - You know those videos you see on Facebook with a top-down view of someone's hands making something ridiculously complicated but is sped up so the video is only like three minutes? Tasty the channel that makes that. And yeah it's made by BuzzFeed and I know it's the popular thing to hate them but those recipes are dope.
Binging With Babish - Wouldn't it be great if you could make famous foods from your favorite movies and TV shows? You probably can't so you might as well watch some dude with a beard do it.
Channels I Couldn't Put Cleanly into a Category so it goes in the "Channels I Couldn't Put Cleanly into a Category" Category
I'm running out of time for this article and couldn't think of ways to group these together so they're in this pile and I'm gonna write short descriptions.
The Modern Rogue - How to do cool stuff like wield weapons, build stuff, and make alcohol
Sugar Pine 7 - Fictional Improved Vlogs with beautiful cinematic scenes thrown in there
Jon Bois - Pretty Good and Chart Party It's like ESPN's 30 for 30 but funnier and with better music
CGP Grey - The main source of knowledge for my English Composition Essays about Copyright and Automation.
Casually Explained - Videos about adult life that look like they were drawn by a child.
Jello Apocalypse - Explains cartoons and video games in ways that are technically correct but hilariously simplified
dj-jo/Zenpaku - EDM remixes of anime songs
RedLetterMedia - Really funny movie reviews if you like dark* and sarcastic humor.
*When I say dark humor I don't just mean you're an edgelord who makes unfunny jokes about babies dying, I mean jokes about existential dread.
So yeah, those are my favorite YouTube channels. Come back next week when I'll again have probably put off writing until the last minute and will have written an article with even less substance than this.
