I have six siblings.
Gasps fill the room. Everyone seems to be befuddled when they find out I have six siblings. They always send condolences to my parents, and sometimes even me. But for me, it really isn't a big deal.
Being the oldest of the seven kids has always been a burden, and five of the six being girls doesn't make it any easier. But there have also been pros in being the oldest. First of all, being the oldest means you're your parents favorite and you will forever be. Secondly, it serves as an excuse for you to go to places and do whatever you want without your sibling's interference. As for the cons, you can never go places or do whatever you want without your sibling's interference. You also have to share your things with them, waste your valuable time on tutoring them at home for hours (while your mom is graciously watching TV), and you always have to babysit them (for no pay).
People always ask me what it is like to have a big family, and I always reply with honesty (and a couple of lies in between). Having a big family is sometimes fun and sometimes not. Going on family trips together is like having a class field trip. We always struggle to fit in the car, but end up having fun. When we go on trips (which there is barely any), we usually end up going to big places that are not museums or art shows, but something like the park or the beach. Although these are not places that many people go to, we always enjoy having each others company.
One con to having a big family is not being able to have your own room or being able to take a family photo without someone blinking. But that's okay, because there is more pros than cons and happiness overrides. All I can say is that I am blessed to have my family in my life and I wouldn't know what to do without them.
