My Dearest Sorority,
I will never forget the first time I laid eyes on you. It was during recruitment that I fell in love with you - the beauty of the house, the atmosphere of the chapter and the personalities of the girls. At first I was hesitant to enter, as I watched sorority members bounce up and down as catchy lyrics were sung (our first song <3). The whole scene can be intimidating to a potential new member. The recruitment counselor scooted me in, and as I entered the house, I peered at my future home.
Recruitment week can be hard for many. Potential New Members drip as the sweltering sun beats down on us while we stand outside to meet our potential sororities. The plastic name badges with white string can ruin any well-planned outfit.
The sound of scratchy voices fills the air as people lose their ability to talk after speaking (aka yelling cough cough) with sorority members. Stress levels rise as the thought of making tough and life-changing decisions draws closer.
There are days I wish I could stay in my air conditioned room and sleep an extra hour (or five). Yet, everyday I get up, put on a cute outfit and head out to another day of recruitment in the hopes of finding you.
Preference day is one of the most difficult days, knowing at the end you have to make a decision between two houses. Even for girls who claim, "they know" which house they want, they still can't help but wonder, "How would my college days be different depending on which sorority I join."
Standing in line, waiting to put in which sorority you are meant to be with, leads to a lot of second guessing (especially if it is a long line). "Will this sorority make me happiest", "Does this sorority have everything I want?", "What if I make the wrong decision?" But in the end, you just know.
And then all of a sudden, on that fateful bid day, it becomes crystal clear. I opened my bid day letter and shrieked with excitement, realizing I was about to begin my special journey with you. Ready to tackle the adventures of creating unique costumes for date dashes, bonding with my sisters at sisterhood events, learning about your history and how the chapter came to be, having laugh out loud moments, serious times, learning new lessons, growing to be the person I want to be.
Recruitment can be a challenge for many, as it is a very draining process. But in the end, you were worth every bit of it. You were the perfect fit for me. I know it has only been a couple weeks, but you just know when it's true love. Thank you for accepting me for me, for giving me guidance through my college years, and becoming my home.
I love you eternally,
