Dear little brother,
Good Lord, if anyone knows how to make me mad more than anything it's you. You know exactly what to say to push me right over the edge and exactly what to do to make me want to throw you into a wall. Well, when we were little at least. You're kind of 6 feet 1 inches tall now and I'm barely 5 feet tall...so we both know that wouldn't end well.
I still remember that exact moment you were born. I was sitting in the hospital waiting room with our grandparents while Mom and Dad were in the delivery room. It was basically a torrential downpour outside, and I was so scared that the power would go out and you wouldn't be able to come -- but then you did, and I couldn't have been happier.
Even if you hated it, I appreciate you letting me force you to play with Polly Pockets for hours on end every day, playing pretend and letting me come up with everything like the control freak I am, and for being the person I could always blame whenever something went wrong and I didn't want to take the heat for it. Thank you also for turning me into a tom-boy by making me dig in the dirt with you, make mud "pools" everywhere in the yard (sorry, Mom), riding our bikes around being "dirt-bike racers" and climbing trees only maybe five branches up and thinking that we were on top of the world. Although these all seem like silly things to remember about our childhood, I wouldn't change them for world.
Now, we're both basically adults. Once we got into middle school and high school, we grew apart. We would fight constantly and always tattle on each other whenever we got the opportunity. I always wonder where we went wrong. We were inseparable when we were little, but I guess that's just a part of growing up. Being in my second year of college and being away from home for another year, I realize more than ever how much I miss you and appreciate the friendship we have now.
I'm so glad that I am the person you feel comfortable enough with to text when something goes wrong and right, when life gets too stressful, when in need of advice and when Mom and Dad get a tiny bit too strict (we both know how they can be). It's crazy to think about how me leaving has caused us to have the relationship we did way back in the day. Although we don't play pretend with each other anymore, we play with this new game called life, and I know you will be accomplishing amazing things with yours.
In a year, you'll be sitting in your college dorm just like I am, reminiscing on how fast life flies by, and I hope you sit back and look on how much our friendship has grown, fallen apart and come back together stronger than before. You are such a smart, hard-working, loving, caring and funny person, and I know I'm not the only one who sees that. I can't wait to see what amazing things you do with the rest of your life, and I can't wait to look out and say, "That's my brother." I am so proud to be your big sister, and I am even more proud to call you my day one, my little brother and my best friend.
Love always,
Your immensely sappy and proud big sissy
