7 Reasons I Want To Be A Teacher

Being an education major is challenging. Most comments are negative and pointed toward the money teachers make. I know for sure that being a teacher will not be the highest paying job, but that is not why I want to be a teacher. Being a teacher takes a special person, and I want to be that person. Here are my top reasons for wanting to become a teacher.

1. I want to educate.

I want to educate students on everything I was not taught. I want to educate students through English. I want students to be able to learn and grasp the material that I teach. I learned so many pointless things in high school, and I want my students to leave the classroom with useful knowledge they will always carry with them.

2. I want to make an impact.

I had multiple teachers in my life that made such a huge impact on me, and I want to be able to do that.

3. I want to educate myself.

I want to continue my education through the eyes of students. Students can teach me so much more than I can ever teach myself. I think that different perspectives can make a person learn so much more than just by their own perspectives.

4. I want to be the "cool" teacher.

Being the "cool" teacher is so much more than just the name. I want students to be able to talk to me about anything and everything. I want to be the teacher that all the students ask advice from. I want students to feel comfortable talking to me and asking me their questions.

5. I want to show students their potential.

Some students never get the attention that they truly need, and therefore they do not get to see their potential. I want each student I teach to know and accept their true potential in their life. Each student needs to know how far they can be pushed, and what great things they can do in life.

6. I want to help students find a role model.

I know that some students go home and have nobody to look up to in their life. I want to help students to find the best role model for them. I am not saying it needs to be me, but all young adults need a role model to look up to.

7. I want to give back.

Obviously, I am not going into education for the pay, but I am going into it for important reasons. I want to be able to give back to the community by teaching the future leaders of the world. I want to give back to all those who taught me, and prove that teaching can lead to such great things.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
