The start of a new year is always exciting. One thing I'm most excited for is to see what new music will be released! This got me thinking about music I used to listen to. Here is a list of songs I, and perhaps you too, listened to when it was 2006.
1. "Hips Don't Lie" by Shakira feat. Wyclef Jean
This song made you want to dance like no one was watching. Your goal was to move like Shakira, whether you had a dancing bone in your body or not. Bonus points if you memorized the Spanish parts!
2. "Move Along" by The All-American Rejects
"When all you got to keep is strong, Move along, move along like I know you do." How profound. This pop punk song spoke to many with its deep lyrics.
3. "How to Save a Life" by The Fray
If this song didn't make you cry, you're lying. This song was very emotional, and the fact that it was featured on "Grey's Anatomy" made it even more emotional. The lyrics were so heartfelt, how could you not cry?
4. "You and Me" by Lifehouse
Ultimate goal: have your crush serenade you with this romantic tune.
5. "Life Is a Highway" by Rascal Flatts
While the original version of this song did not come out in 2006, this version was still a huge hit. It became the most popular song featured on any road trip.
6. "Smack That" by Akon feat. Eminem
This song is another one that got people out of their seats. It was important that you knew all of the words so you could brag to your friends that you were basically a rapper.
7. "Ain't No Other Man" by Christina Aguilera
This song had soul and jazz with pop mixed in, and that combination is what made this song work so well. Plus, Christina Aguilera's voice is gorgeous.
8. "Chasing Cars" by Snow Patrol
Most iconic line: "If I lay here/If I just lay here/Would you lie with me and just forget the world?"
9. "SOS" by Rihanna
Rihanna was just starting to become popular, and "SOS" was a huge hit for her. It got everyone dancing and singing, for sure!
10. "Teardrops On My Guitar" by Taylor Swift
This song spoke to anyone who had a crush on someone and their crush didn't like them back. The lyrics perfectly summed up what that feeling felt like.
11. "SexyBack" by Justin Timberlake feat. Timbaland
JT definitely brought sexy back with this song. That is all.
