With Fall Break approaching this Thursday for McNeese students and Halloween right around the corner, it's about that time of year again to curl up with a warm blanket, put on some fuzzy socks, and binge-watch Halloween movies all day with popcorn and candy.
1. "Halloweentown" (1998)
This 1998 Disney Channel Original Movie has captured the hearts and Halloween spirit in millions of children and adults. Even though I've grown out of kids' movies, this is one of those Disney movies I'll never be able to grow out of. If you haven't seen or heard of this movie, then you've obviously been living under a rock your entire life and need an intervention. Although the first movie will always be the best, make sure to check out "Halloweentown II: Kalabar's Revenger," "Halloweentown High," and "Return to Halloweentown."
Ever since I first saw this movie, I've been waiting for the day my grandmother shows up and whisks us off to "Halloweentown."
2. "Poltergeist" (1982)
Taking a veer off the family-friendly track, the next must-watch Halloween movie is the original 1982 version of "Poltergeist." Nothing says Halloween like a haunted house, creepy occurrences, and ghosts. Oh, and you have a fear of clowns? Viewer beware.
3. "Sinister" (2012)
One of the more recent movies on the list, "Sinister," has a special place in my top favorite horror films. Equally disturbing and frightening, this film always gives me the creeps every time I watch it.
4. "It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown" (1966)
Nothing says a classic Halloween movie like the prime-time animated film, "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown."
5. "Hocus Pocus" (1993)
Our three favorite witch sisters come back to life every Halloween with this Disney movie. Don't forget our favorite heroes and heroines: Max, Dani, Allison, and the immortal cat, Thackery! And after 22 years, do we hear that there is a sequel in the works?
6. "The Nightmare Before Christmas" (1993)
Although something about this movie creeps me out to this day, this stop-motion, dark fantasy musical is still a Halloween favorite of thousands. With Jack the Skeleton, King of Halloween Town, finding himself bored with celebrating the same holiday every year, the audience is sure to be entertained when Christmas and Halloween collide ... kind of like how Walmart and Hobby Lobby and all the other chain stores have Christmas on one aisle and Halloween on the next.
7. "The Addams Family" (1991)
You can't forget to put one of America's favorite creepy families on your Halloween to-do list this year. Who wouldn't want to watch this dark comedy following the crazy lives of Morticia and Gomez Addams?
8. "A Nightmare On Elm Street" (1984).
You definitely won't be sleeping well after watching this slasher flick. Freddie Krueger will surely be haunting your nightmares.
9. "The Exorcist" (1973)
This horror film follows the exorcism of a 12-year-old girl possessed by a demon. This is considered to be one of the most profitable horror movies ever made, and if that doesn't convince you that it's worth watching, then I don't know what else would.
10. "The Shining" (1980)
Although the movies are never as good as Stephen King's books, "The Shining" film adaptation is definitely creepy and worth adding to your Halloween binge-watching list.
