I'm a huge musical theatre nerd. I practically live and breathe show tunes. I own a Playbill binder, and my 2016 year calendar is one of all Playbills. 90 percent of the music on my phone is soundtracks, everything from "Les Miserable" and "The Phantom of the Opera" to "The Secret Garden" and "Jekyll and Hyde: The Musical." Not to mention Sondheim, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Andrew Lloyd Webber and "Hamilton" constantly playing on repeat. With this being said, it wouldn't be surprising that musicals have taught me a few things over the years.
1. When a group starts snapping, you know they mean business.
Also, dancing is a completely effective way to fight the rival gang.
2. If you go to the opera, Don't sit under the Chandelier![]()
Phantom of the Opera has taught me nothing good comes from sitting under the chandelier. Also, keep Opera Box Five open, Alway...
3. Sometimes Prince Charming doesn't lead to Happily Ever After
Into the Woods showed me that just because someone is seemingly perfect for you on the outside, they may not be everything you think they are.
4. There's "No day but today"
One of the many lessons Rent taught me was that we have to live each moment as our last. "No day but Today"
5. One person can change your life for good
I have found this lesson so incredibly true. What G(a)linda said was true.
"I've heard it said
That people come into our lives for a reason
Bringing something we must learn
And we are led
To those who help us most to grow
If we let them
And we help them in return
Well, I don't know if I believe that's true
But I know I'm who I am today
Because I knew you..."
6. "Every day's like an open door"
Each day is full of new opportunities that you have to be open to!
7. We can't all come and go by bubble!
As fun as it seems, bubbles are not the most realistic form of transportation.
8. Standing in a chorus line, a lot of personal stories come out
If you want to spill your guts, why pay a therapist, just go to a cattle call for a chorus line.
9. It's always acceptable to sing in the rain
Sure, you get a little wet, but if you got to sing and dance, you do it in any weather!
10. Impossible things happen every day
A pumpkin turned into a stage coach, and a dress of rags turned into a ballgown...Things happen!
11. EVERYONE IS SPECIAL!
No matter weight, appearance, mental stability, musical talent, whatever, always remember that you are special and important! Let your freak flag wave!
12. You can find True love!
