Everybody say hello to Rainbow Kitten Surprise. I know you're probably laughing right now. The sequence of those words strung together is quite hilarious, but it's intentional. It reveals the joyful and humorous spirit of the band. This indie-rock band from Boone, North Carolina, is a breath of fresh air to the genre with meaningful, deep lyrics, amazing bass lines, and catchy guitar riffs. Their unique sound will keep you listening as time moves on.
RKS's sound is like the love child of Foster the People and Kings of Leon.
RKS started out as just two college roommates at Appalachian State University. They recorded their first EP "Mary" in their dorm room, and, after they gathered a small following, they added three more guys to the band.
RKS released their first full length album "Seven + Mary" in 2013. Some tracks including the very catchy "First Class," "Mr. Redundant," and their biggest hit to date, "Devil Like Me."
After some popularity, RKS released their second self-titled album. Some tracks from this record include very blues oriented "Run," "Lady Lie," and my favorite RKS song, "Cocaine Jesus" about relationships and a longing for something more.
I cannot wait to see what the boys from Boone have in store for us next and hope ya'll enjoy their music as much as I do.
So add a little Rainbow Kitten Surprise into your life. As always,
Happy Listening!
