On Sunday, April 10, MTV aired the 25th MTV Movie Awards. I haven’t laughed this hard at any recent awards shows.
The event started off with a hot entrance by the hosts of this year's show, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Kevin Hart. And by hot, I mean there was literally fire coming out of whatever The Rock was jamming on.
Kevin Hart and The Rock had quite a few choice words to start off the night. By choice words, I mean dropping the f-bomb every other word -- but that’s the Kevin Hart we all know and love. The set of the Movie Awards this year took place outside and not some auditorium or theater that they usually are in. I was extremely fascinated with how cool this set looked. I mean, just look at The Rock’s entrance! Imagine a stage that is in the shape of a circular boxing ring outside.
The first award of the night was presented by the actor from the "Divergent" series, Miles Teller. Miles presented the award for Best Female Performance. Nominees included Anna Kendrick, Jennifer Lawrence, Daisy Ridley, Charlize Theron, Alicia Vikander and Morena Baccarin. The first MTV Movie Award of the night went to the stunning Charlize Theron, for the movie "Mad Max: Fury Road."
The award for Best Virtual Performance went to "Inside Out’s" Amy Poehler, for voicing the character Joy.
Chuck Norris, Bruce Willis, Jackie Chan, Liam Neeson, David Hasselhoff, Sylvester Stallone, The Rock were just seven names out of 29 people that Chris Pratt thanked when he received the award for Best Action Performance, for "Jurassic World."
Again, the always stunning Charlize Theron graced us with her presence -- alongside Chris Hemsworth and Jessica Chastain, who star in the upcoming movie "The Huntsman: Winter War" -- when she introduced the first performance of the night, Halsey, whose song “Castle” is featured in the movie.
The movie "Straight Outta Compton" received the award for Best True Story.
Ryan Reynolds was greeted by a lookalike of his "Deadpool" character and a hilarious performance by Salt-N-Pepa, when he received the award for Best Comedic Performance.
One of the most hilariously weird moments happened next. When Common introduced The Rock and Kevin Hart, the hosts performed a strange ... performance. I don’t even know what to call it. There were people dressed up as bears, with shots of different movies ("San Andreas," "Deadpool," "Guardians of the Galaxy") lighting up the TV screens behind them all while they “sang” the same six words over and over again: “Leo got f***** by a bear” with other celebrities joining in, like Chris Rock and Rebel Wilson. I really honestly do not even know what happened or what was going on. It was so weird yet I couldn’t stop laughing.
Next up was the best-friend duo of Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid, who introduced the following performer, Ariana Grande.
You know that whoever wins Best Kiss has to kiss when they accept the award -- and, boy, did we see a kiss. A kiss that literally had Rebel Wilson and Adam Devine re-enacting their rolling-on-the-ground make-out session they had in the movie "Pitch Perfect 2." I would have been fine with a thank-you acceptance speech by the two of them, but nonetheless, thank you for the ab-aching laughter that you brought.
The Award for Best Comedic Performance was up next, presented by The Rock and Kevin Hart. This award went to none other than the extremely funny and talented Melissa McCarthy. We see Melissa yelling from a stage on the other side of the set -- "I can't get over there!” -- which led to a crowd-surf by Melissa over to the stage where she could accept her popcorn award.
Each year the MTV Movie Awards has a very special award for someone who has made such an impact on the generation, which is why the award is called the “Generation Award.” This year Queen Latifah and Halle Berry presented the award to a dear friend of theirs. But not before The Lonely Island got to do a medley/mash-up of the "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" theme song and the theme song to "Men in Black." All this for the Generation Award Winner, Will Smith.
Throughout the Movie Awards this year, we got a first look at trailers for upcoming movies like "Baywatch," "Kong: Skull Island," "Captain America: Civil War," "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" and "Suicide Squad."
All these movies look phenomenal. "Fantastic Beasts" is bringing back all the "Harry Potter" feels since it is in reference to the Wizarding World of "Harry Potter" and written by J.K. Rowling. But I honestly cannot wait to spend my money at the movies this summer, because they all look so good!
The last award of the night was for Movie of the Year. The nominees were "Avengers: Age of Ultron," "Creed," "Deadpool," "Jurassic World," "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," and "Straight Outta Compton." And the winner for Movie of the Year went to … "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."
