First let me start off defining a Mrs. Degree. A woman who goes to college with the sole purpose of finding man to marry. A woman who spends time, effort and money on classes, but continues to focus on the hunt for a wedding band.
OK ladies, let's get real. We are not cave-women, we don't need a man to provide for us anymore. We are strong, independent and can make our own money. If those aren't attractive attributes of a woman then I guess I've been doing it wrong this whole time.
Now I'm not saying finding the man of your dreams in college is wrong (if you like it then you put a ring on it), but I think that in college your education should come first. You don't want to be put in a position where your education is put on hold for someone who's idea of a wife is someone who cooks, cleans and cuddles. Because you are worth more than your household skills. That said, if your one dream in life is to become a mom and take care of your kids then be the best at it! Pack those lunches with gusto and be the Super Mom/ PTA Queen/ Soccer Mom that you've dreamed of being! There is nothing wrong with following your dreams.
However to those girls who come to college only for a Mrs. Degree, I'm disappointed. You've come to college for a boy, not for a degree. By deciding that you want a Mrs. Degree and that's your focus and your goal, then I'm disappointed. You're at college, make the most of it. Get an education, find a career that satisfies your soul, fall in love with a life that you've made happen. If on your way to that goal you trip and fall in love, make the most of that too, but remember why you're here. To learn. Yeah I know I sound like your parents, but I'm sick of hearing and seeing stories where girls find a guy, drop out of school and become a wife. YOU SHOULD NEVER EVER STOP YOUR EDUCATION FOR A MAN. If you find a guy make sure he loves you, your education, and your career choice. I've met and am friends with plenty of amazing women that kick butt in the class room and are looking for a Mrs. Degree. It's a minor to a major, but remember: it's MINOR.
I believe that a woman should first establish herself, be happy with who she is and how far she has come and life should just happen. Maybe your version of life happening is finding a man, maybe you're looking for someone to find you. Either way that's life happening. I also think that college is the time to find yourself; how can you find yourself when you're constantly looking for someone else? As a college sophomore I have no clue who I am. Yeah I know who I want to be, but making that a reality is the road I've decided to take, and it's going to take a while.
So to all the singe ladies, wifey material and girlfriends: Do me a favor. Take this time to find yourself, wherever that may be. And remember along the way: you're strong, you're independent, and you need companionship just like everyone else. Take your time, learn something, and remember it's the 21st Century, people don't get married until they're like 30 anyway. You do you.
