Moving schools can be difficult. Especially leaving your friends behind.
The transition from 7th grade to 8th grade was pretty rough. I had to leave all my friends in Palestine and come here to the U.S. When my family and I came to the U.S, it was summer. We enjoyed the many activities here in Grand Rapids which brought many memories of my childhood. I also got to see all my cousins for the first time in 4 years. It was an amazing beautiful summer until it ended.
When summer ended we had to apply for school. My parents wanted us to refresh on our English by sending us to Ridge Park Charter Academy, which started August 8. It wasn't hard to adapt to the school and soon enough a had my own group of friends. But after 4 weeks when all other schools started, my parents transferred my siblings and I to Sherwood Park Academy, a Grand Rapids Public School. I was really happy and excited because that's where I had spent my elementary years of 1st grade to 4th grade in and I couldn't wait to see all of my old friends again. After a month or two of attending Sherwood, my parents noticed that the school was weak and was breaking apart (as in staff and such) and the principle would sometimes teach the students because they had no teachers and decided to move my siblings and I back to Ridge Park. It was really hard coming back to the school after the many transfers that I was struggling to keep my grades.
February 24, 2014, I came to where would be my second home for the next 4 years. Forest Hills Central.
Coming to Forest Hill Central Middle School was the best thing that could have ever happened to me that year. I felt like I was in my school in Palestine. Everyone was welcoming and very kind. Although I made no friends that year at Central, and I missed the 8th grade bonding field trip to Cedar Point, I was still happy. I got to meet new people and throughout the years I made many friends that I'm thankful for.
Now I'm a junior at Forest Hills Central High School and couldn't be any happier and grateful for all my friends, teachers, and my family that helped me get through these 3 years. And I'm looking forward to making the best of these last 2 years at Central.
