This poem depicts a college senior reminiscing over the past three years of college as he makes his way back to school for one last move-in. In this instance, the student is going back to Siena Heights as a representation of me. The emotions felt here may represent how other college seniors feel moving back to college one last time.
You drive down a serene dirt road, gazing out your window
through the summer sun.
Memories of moving to college three years before fill your mind as you travel down the familiar path.
You can’t believe that this is a start to an ending to the years that were larger than life.
Your mind begins to reflect to the same drives you made before.
Three years ago, excitement and anxiety mixed together in your mind as you stepped into a new world.
Now, three years later, excitement and anxiety mix in your mind as you start to the path to the finale.
Time after time, you ask yourself questions that you already know the answers to.
“Where did the time go”?
“How did I get here”?
“Can I slow it down”?
As you ask yourself these questions again, buildings of your home begin to pop onto the horizon.
These buildings may be older and worn, but the memories from the community a year ago keeps it alive and vibrant.
Suddenly you feel excited again, just like you did the past three years.
One last time, you look forward to a year of new possibilities and experiences.
Even if the time goes fast, you always appreciate the time you have no matter what.
You’ll embrace the memories you had.
You’ll welcome in the memories you will make.
You’ll cherish the old friendships that got you through it all.
You’ll welcome in the new friendships that will get you to the end of the line.
No matter what happens, you will live every moment with everything you have.
Because this is the last time you will get to enjoy this mesmerizing college life.
You park your car and open your trunk, it’s time to unpack the car and move in one last time
The countdown finally begins,
Your senior year has arrived.
