6 Movies You Wouldn't Expect To Be Based On A True Story

Many movies we watch are fictional stories about lives we could live, with the exception of some that are based on a true story. While sitting on my computer googling, I was amazed to see how many people lives are really portrayed on the big screen. As I went far down into a google deep dive, I stumbled myself finding out the stories behind movies and could not believe what I found.

1. Marley & Me

The most heartbreaking movie that any pet owner could watch, is based off of the real life of the Grogan family. This could not be a shock, but many are not aware that the book written by John Grogan is actually an autobiography of the family's life with the mischievous dog Marley. Displaying the real truth of how much a pet can impact your life.

2. Goodfellas

This classic film is based on the non-fiction book, "Wiseguys" written and based around a mobster turned to FBI agent named Henry Hill. Although the plot did not trick anyone into thinking that the "bad guy, gone good" could be real, most of the movie events did indeed happen during his lifespan. Hill died in 2012, stating that the movie was at least 95% accurate to what his life really included. The most shocking fact about this is that up until the day Hill died, the mafia would have paid anyone $1 million to the person that killed him.

3. The Notebook

Another heartbreaking movie turned out to be based on the lives of Nicholas Sparks wives grandparents. This warms hearts to know that Noah and Ally really did get to live the epic romance that happened in the film and the novel; proving that even what looks to be fictional and too amazing to be real life love, could happen to anyone.

4. Girl, Interrupted

This film featuring Angelina Jolie and Wynona Ryder is based off of the main characters Susanna Kaysen memoir. The book and film opened the eyes and really let everyone know what it is really like to live in a psychiatric care during the late 1960s.

5. Chicago

The musical-turned-movie is actually based off of a play written in 1926. The story originally followed Beulah Annan, now known as Roxie Hart. Beulah Annan did indeed kill her boyfriend during her life, but there was no Velma involved. The musical and films changed the role to make it more light-hearted. There is also a silent movie about Beulah Annan made in 1927.

6. 50/50

This movie staring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen is based off of the writer Will Reiser who portrayed his life as he experienced cancer through the movie. Reiser actually got the inspiration of writing his story from Seth Rogen while they were both working on the movie "Da Ali G"

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
