"Back to the Future" Trilogy

Starting with Part I, it's a classic and considered one of the best movies in history as well as one of my favorites. The reason is because the acting, effects, storyline, characters and all of the actors were well chosen. It's about a teenager named Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) who accidentally gets sent back to 1955 from 1985 in Dr. "Doc" Emmett Brown's (Christopher Lloyd) DeLorean time machine and accidentally interferes with his parents (Crispin Glover and Lea Thompson). Now it's up to him to get them together before his existence is doomed along with the help of Doc to get him back to his present time. The obstacles he needs to deal with are his father's fear of rejection and the bully Biff Tannen (Thomas F. Wilson) with his gang of bullies interfering with getting them together.

Part II takes place after the events of part I. Marty and Doc travel to the year 2015 to prevent Marty's kids from ending up in prison, which destroys the McFly family. While in 2015, old Biff steals the time machine to give a sports almanac (which Marty bought) to his 1955 self in order to become rich, famous, and powerful. After they return from the future they discover that their hometown Hill Valley, California and the entire space-time continuum have been corrupted by Biff. Now Marty and Doc have to go back to the events of the first film to get that almanac from him in order to restore the space-time continuum back to its natural order.

Lastly, in Part III, Marty gets a letter from Doc saying that he's choosing to stay in the old west. But Marty finds out that he will be shot and killed one week after the letter was written. So Marty goes back to 1885 to prevent Doc from being killed. While in 1885 Doc falls for a schoolteacher named Clara Clayton (Mary Steenburgen). Again, they have to find a way to get back to their present time before it's too late.

Some reasons as to why you should watch these movies are because they're imaginative, the story lines are interesting, they teach you lessons about life along with your future, and you'll learn more about time travel theories.

"Space Jam"

This is one of my other all time favorite movies. A group of aliens called the Nerdlucks come to Looney Tune land to capture them as slaves in their theme park called Moron Mountain. They decide to challenge them to a basketball game. Unknown to the Looney Tunes, the Nerdlucks have power to steal the talent from the top 5 NBA players which causes them to turn into Monstars. Now they need the help of Michael Jordan to defeat the Monstars so they can stay in their real home in cartoon land.

The reason as to why I recommend this is because the live action segment and cartoon segment together make it a fun movie to watch.

"42"

It's called 42: The Jackie Robinson Story. Obviously, this is about the famous baseball player, Jackie Robinson, who is known for playing in the Brooklyn Dodgers. It takes place in 1947 in New York City. In this movie, you'll learn about how he tried to make it into baseball and how he did it even though blacks weren't accepted back then due to racism.

The reason you should watch this is because you will learn more about baseball and possibly get into it.

"God's Not Dead"

This is a Christian film that is indeed worth watching for Christians and even non-Christians. The plot of this movie involves a college student named Josh Wheaton that takes a philosophy class with Professor Jeffrey Radisson. Jeffrey is an Athiest that has his students sign something saying that God is dead. Josh refuses which will result in automatic failure of the class, affecting the outcome of his academic future. He then provides proof that God exists and keeps arguing to the class and professor about it.

The reason you should watch it is because you'll hopefully convert to Christianity and learn why God actually exists.

"Good Burger"

This is a Nickelodeon original movie about a boy named Dexter (Kenan Thompson) needing a summer job in order to pay off car damages to his mothers. He takes a job at Good Burger and meets a guy who works there named Ed (Kel Mitchell), who actually caused the accident with his mother's car and they become friends. They have to face a rival burger place named Mondo Burger that recently opened. Now it's up to Good Burger to bring customers so they don't lose business or money.

The reasons you should watch it are because it's hilarious and you will get a lot of comedic entertainment out of it.

"Mean Girls"

This movie is about a girl named Cady Heron(Lindsay Lohan) who moves from Africa, where she was home schooled for the majority of her life, to being a normal high school student at North Shore High in Illinois. While she is there she meets a group called the plastics who consist of Regina George, who is the leader, Gretchen Wieners, and Karen Smith (Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert, and Amanda Seyfried). Cady falls for Regina's ex-boyfriend Aaron Samuels, who Regina forces to get back to her resulting in her being angry. She and her two friends, Janis and Damian, set up a plan to break up the plastics while Cady herself is involved with them.

The reasons you should watch this movie are because it has amazing quotes, it's funny, it's good to watch with friends and dates, and you'll learn some lessons throughout the movie.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
