So many great movies came out from when I was born in 1997 to today. I decided to create a list of my personal favorite movies released during these times that never seem to get old. I decided not to include any Disney movies because I am in love with all of them and could watch them all until I die. I also did not add movies from 2016 because there are some great movies that still did not come out this year.
1997: Good Will Hunting
I cannot explain how much I love this movie. I honestly cannot. I only wish I was old enough to witness Ben Affleck, Matt
1998: Rush Hour
So.Many.Hilarious.Moments. The rest of the "Rush Hour" movies are timeless as well, and I am patiently waiting for more news on "Rush Hour 4."
1999: She’s All That
If you did not watch every Freddie Prince Jr. movie from the late 90’s to early 2000’s then you did not live.
2000: The Emperor’s New Groove
Okay, I know I said no Disney movies but I just felt that I needed to put more emphasis on this movie because it is one of the most brilliant movies I have ever watched. From the hilarious characters to the creative illustration of the plot, this may personally be one of the best Disney movies of all time.
2001: The Princess Diaries
Yes, I thought that Genovia was a real place, and yes, I was crushed when I found out the truth.
2002: Catch Me If You Can
It has Tom Hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio, how could you not love it? Not to mention the fact that this movie was based on a true story, which still amazes me.
2003: Holes
This was around the time that I was obsessed with Shia Labeouf but this movie showed how awesome Zero was when he did not hesitate to hit Dr. Pendanski with a freaking shovel. #LongLiveZero
2004: Shark Tale
This was the year "Mean Girls" "The Notebook" and "White Chicks" came out as well. Although all of them are still extremely referenced today, I am going to share my unpopular opinion that I did not like any of these movies. I still believe that "Shark Tale" is highly unrepresented from the movies in 2004 and I will continue to petition how great it was. I mean come on, what is
2005: Robots
Another animated movie that was too good for its time. I actually bought this movie; it influenced my life that much. If you have never seen this movie please go watch it and thank me forever.
2006: The Pursuit of Happyness
Probably the only movie that could get me in my feels, and the only movie that Will and Jaden Smith could act in together that is not terrible.
2007: Freedom Writers
I am a sucker for movies about teachers inspiring students, and any movie that features Mario.
2008: Seven Pounds
You could probably tell I like depressing movies with Will Smith (side note: "Shark Tale" did have emotional scenes that really got to me, no shame.)
2009: 17 Again
When Zac Efron was in his prime and he got to act as a young Chandler Bing, it cannot get any better than that. Except for the scene where he got out of his car in a leather jacket and sunglasses, that scene could probably create world peace.
2010: How to Train Your Dragon
Words cannot describe how much I loved this movie and Toothless.
2011: Bridesmaids
This movie changed my expectations of what being a bridesmaid would be like.
2012: 21 Jump Street
Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill continue to make my heart happy.
2013: We’re the Millers
Listen, I’m a simple person. Put Jennifer Aniston in a movie and I will watch it.
2014: Still Alice
I am so glad I watched this movie in theaters (and many more times afterwards,) it is unbelievably emotional and moving.
2015: Southpaw
I actually watched this movie three times in theaters. Jake Gyllenhaal, you continue to make me go broke to watch your movies but as always, it was worth it.
