It is never too early to get into the Halloween spirit. Bring out the pumpkins! Bring out the spice! Bring out the crunching leaves and films for when the weather gets dark and gloomy. They will put you in the autumn mood and all that comes with it. I suggest you add a jumbo bag of candy- not for the trick or treat-ers, silly. For you, and whoever you decide to spend a few hours in front of the screen with, if you decide to share. Either way tuck yourself in for a viewing of these somewhat spooky, but definitely Halloween, favorites when you need a pick-me-up in the spirit department if the candy doesn’t already get you there.
For the Halloween Movie Lovers of Our Childhood
Feeling nostalgic for the good ol’ days when you stayed up late on a school night for these classic favorites? Go for the well known Disney Channel Originals.
Halloweentown, Twitches, Don’t Look Under the Bed, Tower of Terror, or The Haunted Mansion.
You know you loved these, especially if horror isn’t up your alley. Love them again in all their tween appropriate Halloween humor and cheesey-ness.
The Classic that Never Gets Old
Hocus Pocus
Two words, fantastic movie. Boy moves to Salem. Boy meets girl. Boy sets off a curse that lets some witches free on Halloween night. It’s a classic everyone has to watch at least once. What else is there to say?
The Television Specials
It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.
“I got five pieces of candy!” “I got a chocolate bar!” “...I got a rock.”
No matter what the season, Charlie Brown is always a must.
A Drama With Some Thrill
The Sixth Sense.
Ever wonder were the line "I see dead people" came from? Well then it is time to experience the six sense. Do you have one? Because young boy, Cole, does in this film as he tries to understand the images, or rather the possible spirits, around him. Not only is this one a little creepy, it also a fantastic movie to keep you guessing at the end.
Okay, Horror Fans
It’s your turn. All the ones I missed...yes. Those. Not that you need any more of a push to break out the movies that make you jump at a bump in the night afterwards and never look at a cornfield the same way again.
Halloween, The Ring, Paranormal Activity, The Blair Witch Project (new or original, it’s up to you).
If you are interested in my suggestion away from the usual few, The Unborn should be right up your alley with creepiness all around and decent backstory.
Let your scary festive side shine, Halloween lovers, and maybe have a buddy for when you want to hide behind the pillows and let someone else narrate what is going on.
