Move-In Weekend

I think it gets more stressful as the years pass..

I don't know about you guys, but I have a love/hate relationship with move-in weekend. It's so exciting to come back and move in and see all the people you haven't seen since you moved back home three months ago, but it's probably the most stressful and annoying weekends in the history of college weekends.

1. No matter how much better you think you get at packing, the car loads seem to just get bigger every year

I feel like every time I pack to move-in, I think I've learned something more strategic to help make it less, but it never turns out that way. Maybe I just buy more every year??

2. No matter how much you stuff in all those car loads, you almost always forget something

This year I managed to forget my clothing for recruitment, my pillows, some picture frames, my fan, and God only knows what else that I haven't realized yet!! #GoMe

3. The traffic

I don't know why I didn't think all these people that attend my university have families like I do, that would be helping them move in, but the extra cars create so much traffic that you'll be sitting in lights for about 20 minutes.

4. The heat

Okay, I go to school in the mountains, and I'm pretty sure the only reason I signed up to go to school in the mountains was so that it wouldn't be so freakin' hot. And I know it's still Summer, blah blah blah, whatever, I'm convinced that the weather kicks it up to hell when move-in weekend comes around.

5. Dorms without air conditioning

Luckily for me, I have AC in my building. Unfortunately for me, I had to help move in freshmen who didn't have AC in their building, and I think I was on the verge of dying from a heat stroke. *Silent prayer for those doing their time in the airless dorms now*

6. Reunions!

It took me not even 3 minutes to run into 4 people I knew and have that *hugs* "OMG how was your summer??" "You look so good!" "I missed you so much!!" *hugs again* interaction.

7. Decorating

As someone who wants to do something with interior design, decorating and arranging my room is my FAVORITE part of move-in weekend. I may rearrange 32 times till I like it, but it's so satisfying in the end.

8. The parents

They come and they go. We try to get them here just to help us move in, and maybe buy us our groceries (or our comforters and toiletry items before they go, thanks mom and dad) and then we rush them out so we can do whatever we want, whenever we want.

9. Welcome Weekend

I don't know about other schools, but my university does this thing called "Welcome Weekend" and basically it gives you something to do so you're not bored out of your mind all weekend and see what this school is all about and has to offer.

10. The freshmen

When I was a freshman, all my older friends would say "you can just spot someone and know they're a freshman," and I really didn't get it. Now I do. They literally look like lost lil puppies, and they over pack by a car load, because it's not gonna fit in the tiny dorms that freshmen get assigned to. They're the ones that ask all the questions but play it off like they just forgot, and I know this because I've been there. (cheers to you guys though, cause freshman year was fun af.)

11. The trash

Listen, I think the trash guys should get paid extra on move-in weekend. There is so much trash after everyone gets done unpacking and finally settles in, it's disgusting. This isn't even an exaggeration.

No matter how stressful move-in weekend may be though, it's filled with so much excitement. And at least all of your friends get to endure all the struggle of it with you, right?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
