A week later and here it is folks - my two cents.

Now, let me make clear that I am all for sales and I enjoy discounts that can blow my mind. However, I am not for the fact that Black “Friday” has weaseled it’s slimy way into Thursday. Every single year, the time at which Black Friday begins gets further and further away from Friday itself.

I get it. I do. The sales. The joy. The pain!! But come on, can we please let Thursday have it’s time to shine without the hassle of Friday encroaching on it’s personal boundaries? Turkey Day, formally known as Thanksgiving, was a time meant to share with your family, ones you love, or even by yourself in a café enjoying some amazing meal. It is a time meant to be understanding that giving is as great as receiving, if not better, and while it’s fine to get geared up for Friday shopping, Thursday is supposed to be the sacred day. There is no right way to spend it, but the name is not Black Thursday it is Black Friday!

I do however agree with the sale continuing into the weekend and this new tradition of Cyber Monday and it beginning on Sunday! That is worth keeping around but let there be no more shucking Thursday aside for early evening Black Friday.

I miss the magic of having to wake up at 2 AM, get your battle gear: scalding coffee, quick breakfast, cold water in the face, and then race to the mall and push past all the crazy people, who, just like you, got there 2 hours early for the sales. Who knows, maybe they will open the gates 5 min early.

Why did we start having Black Friday on Thursday night? Is money that important, material possessions so needed, and being away from your families not that big of a sacrifice? Thanksgiving has become a muted background to the commercialized greed of the people and corporate industries. While I respect the people’s love of Black Friday, I respect it more when it is on Friday. If you really need those items then nothing will stop you. Not lines, time, or dollar amount on FRIDAY! Why can’t we wait those few extra hours to start the chaos? It’s like with every company pushing decorations down our throat for a holiday that is two months away or the controversy the public had when the coffee companies began competing over who brought back the holiday drinks first. There is only so much time and the specialty of those items is the season they go along with. I can only do so much complaining as I enjoy the decorations, the sales, the PSL (Pumpkin Spice Latte) just as much as the next gal but I also enjoy the light and love of being with the ones I love and getting to build memories in the comfort of my home. I enjoy getting to know that Thursday is Thursday and Friday is Friday or in this case, Black Friday.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
